Re: Strking in and the female anatomy

You know, I remember for years having trouble with striking in and noticing that I was using a huge movement, and having to take huge breaths to fill my bag to get the E... and that was before I had...

Re: What to say?

Thanks all. I spoke to his parents last night and his dad was also worried about him losing all of his progress. We decided to try for at least one lesson per month to at least keep things in a...

What to say?

Hi all,

I've run into a bit of a dilemma regarding my (currently) only student. We've been working since about October on the PC, and while he doesn't show any signs of wild talent, I think he...

Re: Bagpipe Busking Ban in Vancouver

The piper who discovered this ban was Kyle Banta - a fine Grade 1 piper from the New West Police PB. He was applying for his usual busking permit when they informed him that it was banned. ...

Re: Look what my neighbour was hiding!

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Hardie now too - I saw a set on Ringo's site with identical projecting mounts - the only other ones I've seen that match the ones on this set. So, Hardie it is! :)

Re: Securing loose ferrules

I just did this on the weekend with a thin bead of gorilla glue. Cures in 30 seconds and doesn't move. You just need a little bit.

Another Henderson puzzler

I was digging around to see what my neighbour might expect to get for his pipes, if he were to sell them and came across this ad:

Re: Look what my neighbour was hiding!

The chanter is a Henderson and looks like it matches the set. Same catalin sole, same wood colour. There was also an older, ivory-soled Lawrie chanter with it.

Re: Look what my neighbour was hiding!

Hmm, At first glance I agree, but what do you make of those beefy projecting mounts? When I compare to other Hardies, they seem thicker and the bead is too closely spaced. I'm looking at this site:...

Look what my neighbour was hiding!

So a few years ago, I was asked to pipe for a Burns supper that my neighbour holds annually for his family and friends. He has a bit of Scottish blood, though he's never played pipes. The first...

Re: don't tell anyone...

I got the shoes in the mail today and they're great. Quite comfy - the heel's not too high and is quite steady. I won't be walking any parades in them, but I could definitely do a wedding, burns...

Re: blowpipe position in the mouth?

You can buy mouthpieces of different lengths (I have several from 3" up to 5"). If that still makes it too long, considering having your blowpipe stock shortened professionally, or buying a shorter...

Re: don't tell anyone...

Well, that's the thing! It's impractical to pipe in a ball gown, but it is the female equivalent of a kilt, prince charlie, and bow tie. So how can a female piper dress up her look without looking...

Re: don't tell anyone...

No, but then again I hate wearing long dresses and skirts. My order of business here is to create a look that is modern and formal for my bagpiping gigs. Something along the lines of what Faye...

Re: Resources for Ear/Sight Reading Exercises for Bagpipes

Thanks everyone. We had a minor breakthrough last night - I think she finally realized what she should be doing in terms of hearing the music in her head and transferring it to her fingers. I was a...

Re: Resources for Ear/Sight Reading Exercises for Bagpipes

Thanks for the suggestions. My student can't remember one full bar of music. Last week, just to test her ear, I played

lA-B-lG

she played:
lA-B-C
B-lA-lG
C-B-lA
lG-lA-B

Resources for Ear/Sight Reading Exercises for Bagpipes

Hi all,

I'm having difficulties with my student who seems to be quite tone deaf. I'm trying to get her to memorize her music, partly because it will be necessary when she transitions to pipes,...

Re: Piping and Physical fitness?

I think being physically fit really helps your piping stamina above all else. You can still have piping stamina without it, but it means you have to be piping a lot more. If you're physically fit,...

Hi all,

Despite having played bagpipes for most of my life, I've only recently begun teaching (more out of necessity than anything because there are no other pipers where I live). Anyway, I have...
