Re: RJM Solo Chanter Adjustment

This is excellent news and it's great to see the designer listening to users! I think this will make many more folks come (back) to this excellent chanter. I do know at least 3 players, one female...

Re: What size Begg sheepskin do you play?

Standard on my Krons and medium on my vintage Hendersons. Both are quite comfortable, with the standard size better for band work as strike-in's are easier and more precise. I do like the medium for...

Re: X-TREME drone reeds

I got a set yesterday. Love the bass, but can't seem to get the tenors to work. Strangely resistant and inefficient. I'll play with them.....

Re: scam on Ebay

Well, if they WERE sold via eBay and Paypal then whoever the buyer is is 100% protected. I've never had a bad experience but last year my wife bought a "professional"-level flute that was NOT what it...

Re: Balance Tone Drone Reeds

I second Jim McGillivray's comments above 100%. I couldn't get the earlier grey generation of this reed to work very well, so I dismissed the new yellow / black "bumblebee" generation until I heard...

Re: Looking for a Chanter, whats a Piper to do?

Strathmore poly is my favorite for general work. Nice, ergonomic design (finger holes nicely spaced and not too big); lovely scale and timbre; very easy to reed; well-priced. But I also use the...

Re: Strathmoore chanter

Hiya Dan. I guess I'm lucky to have a large number of older Shepherd reeds that work really well in mt Strathmore chanters. However, I just got a batch of Colin MacLellan's reeds and they work...

Re: Holy Grail?

Dan, very well said, especially the part about conformity. IMHO, that applies to many aspects of the culture: What style / brand of instrument to play, sound / timbre to be achieved, interpretation...

Re: P/M Donald MacLeod's pipe setup

RE: Wee Donald's photo, my best guess is that this was an Army set, and so a bit of a Frankenpipe. John Wilson (Edinburgh and Ontario), in his long-ago published memoir, recalled that a lot of...

This may be a long shot, but I just took receipt of a phenomenal-sounding "RJM" Naill chanter, designed by Roddy MacLeod.

Re: Opinions on Pipe Chanters

I go back and forth between the McC2 and the Strathmore, lately with a slight preference for my wooden Strathmore because I love my plastic Strathmore for "everyday" playing and gigs. But there are...

Re: My new babies - Keith Jeffers custom drones

Look very similar to sets of Alexander Glens that I have seen, and played (except that the bells are a little narrower / less flared...). Nice!!!

Re: Lee and Sons Pipe Bags

Lindy, you don't need much strength to do a proper tie-in, just a good length of strong dowel that you can brace with your feet, about 8 feet of strong waxed cord, another small dowel and a small...

Re: Anyone played McGillivray "Edinburgh" Glen-style pipes?

Why don't you ask Jim directly? I'll bet he'd be happy to ask anyone who's bought one if they would mind being contacted to discuss their experiences with them. I owned a very similar set of original...
