Another new leather bag - celtic knot design

A rounder cut, a little more air in this one. Higher quality leather. Holds the tone extremely steady.

I really like how this leather tools. It took the color better, too.

Re: Hard leather drone reed protector

I play a leather bag without any gizmos, and even before I started playing my own bag, I've preferred letting the thing air out so that the seasoning will dry out and be ready to re-absorb more...

Hard leather drone reed protector

This is going to be fitted to my pipe case currently under construction. I always wanted a device to protect the drone reeds, and secure the pipes. It's certainly not perfect, but it's a first - for...

Re: Advice Needed - Replacement stocks

If your $300 Waterford vase cracks and you glue it and bind it up, you have a vase that can hold water as well as ever, but it is no longer of any monetary value because it is a crystal vase, and...

Re: L&M Non-Zips - any left out there?

I have a medium, a 1987 - brand new, untouched, never had holes cut into it. Straight neck, and the leather is supple. Smells new, too. You'd think it was made this year. There's a brand on it -...

Re: I made my own pipe bag

My latest:

The motif is the Norse "Jelling" style, and was on a silver brooch discovered at Skaill, Orkney.

Glued, Riveted and braided. The strips are cuffs to be laced over the stocks.

Re: I made my own pipe bag

I think it's possible for a tooled bag cover, however there's a host of complications given that tooling leather doesn't bend like cloth. First, the cover would likely be more expensive than the bag...

Re: I made my own pipe bag

A living? Is this with or without the cost of private health insurance? In any case, a bag like this would certainly cost a lot. It takes about 7 days to make one. Not something you cookie cut, slap...

Re: I made my own pipe bag

Here's one I just finished in dark brown with rivets. Got carried away punching the holes for the rivets at the back of the bag - lesson learned. Rivets are a truly brilliant innovation by Michael...

A recording.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=17WQjOsEkRHDo-WwRAi_sgQv4dAjgGi7J

It's a long file and you might be prompted to "play anyway" - just play anyway.

I recorded this after work today, after an...

I made my own pipe bag

It's comfortable, and it manages the water, though I do pull the chanter and drones out after playing. It's two layers; I wanted the outer layer to be protected from internal moisture, not only to...

Re: Reed never stabilises

Just curious. Where does the water build up when you cork the chanter stock and play only drones?

Re: Practice chanters for classroom

I teach English in Florida, too, and I'm wondering how you fit bagpipes into the DOE curriculum. What course code are you using for this? In any case you undoubtedly need an additional certification,...

Re: Hide bag 'loss' when tying in

I suppose the leather taken up in the seam of a leather bag would reduce the girth somewhat compared to a fabric bag. But really what might make a big difference is the spacing of the stocks; the...

Re: "ARVORIN" imitation ivory

China?? Hmm... I wonder if it's carcinogenic. Well, it can't be any worse than the old Ivorine. Then again... maybe it actually IS Ivorine.

A lesson with Duncan Johnstone, 1994.

I found a cassette tape in my attic labelled Duncan Johnstone. It was a lesson I had had in August of 1994. It was so exciting at the time to be taking lessons from my teacher's teacher. I figured...
