Re: Reeding a new Naill chanter

The older ones are notoriously flat on B and D....always needed carving..wonderful chanters though...I've found that they needed warming up of the wood to reach proper intonation...the old...

Re: Well-known pipers who play easy reeds?

Re: Old Henderson Tone

Kintails of that era were most likely made by Greig Sharp, who was a turner for Henderson for many years...many including myself, have found the similarities striking...then there is the issue of the...

Re: Old Henderson Tone

A set of 1980 to early 90s Kintails would provide that sound...and can be had at reasonable prices.

Re: Well-known pipers who play easy reeds?

Some interesting replies to my earlier post ...the simplest way for me to support my assertion goes as follows...yes, reedmaker X may make excellent reeds...but let's say he has 300 freshly made...

Re: Well-known pipers who play easy reeds?

You may doubt it all you like...but if you believe the top bands on Glasgow Green in August get the exact same reeds that your local supplier gets, then I would suggest that a little further research...

Re: Well-known pipers who play easy reeds?

Shawn Husk has got it right..it's about vibrancy...unfortunately, even with all of the improvements in reed making over the last 10 years, finding the reed that vibrates freely is somewhat of a...

Re: Londonderry Air?

It's standard tuning...1990 Naill ABW chanter that sets very close to Concert b flat with a Shepherd reed..old school sound that I prefer..it's the high A you're hearing, not a high G....no carving...

Re: Band pipe chanter/reed combinations

Re: Antique lot on eBay

There's nothing remarkable enough, in my mind, in this ghastly lot that is worthy of salvage and restoration to justify the exposure to what appears to be a fermenting petri dish of mold, disease and...

Re: Musings on Grainger & Campbell bagpipes

You don't see many sets in the USA...not sure why...I rarely run into anyone playing them..and my sense is that you don't see many sets at the higher levels...they sort of faded away even after P/M...
