Do you mean the chanter pitches at B flat (466Hz) in reference to A 440Hz?

Re: Busking on Pipes

I don't busk, but every now and then when I'm playing for an event or warming up in a park before a gig, someone will slip me a few bucks. I usually give it to the next panhandler I see. ( I'm AFM, ...

Roger that- The Revels included it in their "Sea Revels" show and Album, with singing and Scottish Smallpipes.

Re: Another new leather bag - celtic knot design

I used to do some leather tooling years ago-wallets, belts, sporrans, knife and axe sheaths. Are you using oak-tanned cowhide? I wouldn't think of that for a pipe bag, but if it's supple and hold...

Re: Favorite sea shanties anyone?

And how could I forget "Shenandoa" which was often sung as a Foc'sl chantey. ( needs a high G# and start on E rather than on the non-existent low e as sung) though.

Re: Tin Whistle to Play With GHB

That's not necessarily true.

I would agree that the whistle will not be nearly as loud as the GHB, however. First I'd find out where the pipes in question actually pitch, then if they're close...

Re: Heat threshold for ABW Pipes?

OK, but I've been tempting fate pretty regularly for 40 years, so I'll keep with it.

Re: Heat threshold for ABW Pipes?

I have played my ABW pipes (1979 G&M) as hot as 105˚F and as low as -2˚F. No cracks.

Re: Setting Monthly-Yearly Goals

Joe, good luck with your goals. Transitioning to the pipes in July is do-able- you were, after all, a tuba player, so you should have decent diaphragm support. don't rush getting into playing tunes...

Re: 2019-version Selbies?

I've been playing Selbie drone reeds for a few years now and have a handful of sets tweaked to play with my different chanters. I recently acquired a set with"new model" bass drone, which does not...

Re: What's your least favorite type of gig?

I selected parades, only because as a solo piper, I don't do many. My least favorite would be any where the majority of the audience are drunk. That can get uncomfortable rather quickly.

Re: Ever feel like you've "Lost it"?

Dorothy, dear friend, I'll disagree with you on the suitability of Keyboard as cross training. In playing keyboard, each hand has its own work to do, playing as many as 10 different notes at once (...
