Re: low pitch vs high pitch

To answer the question on why the big bands didn't play at a higher pitch in the past:

In the past we started off at a lower pitch than now. In competition the band that had a slighty higher pitch...

Re: plastic reed, the future?

Plastic pipe reeds are like early synthetic reeds right now-they're not as good as cane sound wise but everything else appears to be sorted.

I've never heard one but then again pipers where I'm...

Re: Bagpipes and asthma

I saw that expand-a-lung thing. Sounds like it could work but it just goes along the same theory of practicing blowing but at a different strength.

Be of good use though-just not needed if you can...

Re: Bagpipes and asthma

This is great-I could just imagine it-piping prescriptions. Even better would be hospital pipe bands but yeah, I agree that the NHS piping scheme wouldn't work out too well-30 pipers and one and a...

Re: Bagpipe chanter problem

Sounds like it could be unsteady blowing. The sound happens sometimes which is a sign of an easy reed / overblowing, but somethings it cuts out too.

Keep a constant pressure on the bag which is...

Re: Every ones a critic!

My dogs just lie there and sleep when I pipe

How do I get them to sing?

Re: low pitch vs high pitch

In that case my point of reference was my last pipe band, which had a sharper pitch than most bands, and my own chanter for solo use.

I'm not saying that flat=bad I'm saying that I prefer the...

Re: music patterns

Tunes are usually written in a total number of bars that are a multiple of 4. eg. 4, 8, 12 bar tunes.

Re: The future of carbon fiber pipes?

If someone can make a set of pipes out of carbon fiber and get them sounding good then more power to 'em.

But until they get the sound produced near ABW and also with other advantages to it then...

Re: Bannatynes bag life +ross canister

Tape the corners and sharp parts of the Canister itself and then there will be nothing from the system that can damage the bag.

When you're asked if you used a Cansiter system just say no as there...

Re: low pitch vs high pitch

To answer the questions:

The band was playing crap, it was a parade and they would have had some weaker players out there which was obvious from the playing.

There were no other bands there, I...

Re: Did the stupidest thing...

I can remember taking out a part of the pipes that was in slighty too tight and when it finally came out I smacked myself in the mouth with it.

Good times eh?

Re: McCallum pipes

McCallum chanters are the most consistent because they are machine done-as with most if not all of their pipes I think.

Strange thing is when an entire band goes with wooden McCallums and this...

Re: How do I import BWW to PiobMaster?

Sorry-just reading back over this and saw things that don't make sense:

I can't make out if the code changes from P to L, or L to P before it can be imported.

Which one do we want?

Re: low pitch vs high pitch

I've played in a band that has gone from pitches like 475-480Hz and currently have my chanter going at about 475Hz.

I'd say that the pitch 475-480Hz sounds the best. I just heard a pipe band the...

Re: How do I import BWW to PiobMaster?

I stand corrected. It seems there is a way to import .bww-whihc is annoying as it doesn't seem to be mentioned a lot anywhere.

Cheers Randy-I'll trust your method works because right now I'm not...
