Re: Best way to clean drum heads?

Oy vey!

Listen! Don't believe that hogwash that kevlar is such a delicate material. Heads that are properly maintained can last for years and can be put through a great amount of abuse before...

I can't agree with you more. Learn from the greats then discover your own voice. That's the art of musicianship! :thumb:

Re: Does Yamaha make Scottish snares ??

I played the prototype that Fred Sanford brought to Stone Mountain in the 90s. Compared to the drums of that time (HTS 200s ending HTS 700s starting) it was just as good. Much better upper snare...

Re: It Starts At The Top

When a piper can play an eggbeater or a churruckitah then they can have a say about drummers. Put twenty snares in a parade doing stick tricks and a cookin' beat next to some..."pipers" and see who...

Re: 9-year-old & parades

When I was 9 years old, I started learning the snare drum in my local American Legion drum corps.

My first gig with them was in the high school's homecoming parade, and I and my friend who...

Re: 9-year-old & parades

Tell the LD to pull the cork out of his tuches and let the kid play. How is an upcoming drummer going to get performance experience if they're not allowed to march in some rinky dink parade? It's...

Re: Loch Norman Results??

Read that Atlanta swept all four categories--straight firsts.

Wake 4 swept all but one--ensemble (?).

Re: Drumming grips - traditional vs. symmetrical?

No, I'm definitely thinking Bridgemen. Lancers was Charlie Poole's line, and he was big into the Scottish idiom. Lots of influence in his writing.

I seem to remember BMJ was matched particularly...

Re: Drumming grips - traditional vs. symmetrical?

Bridgemen, arguably the best snareline ever in DCI, won drumming three years in a row ('80-'82) using matched grip.

Re: Cost of pipe band snare drum top heads

That's the cost for achieving high pitch and table top responsiveness.

It, also, begets my silly notion that old school drums like the Slingerland TDR were some of the best sounding snares I've...
