Re: Small Pipe Chanter Reed

Sounds like the reed has opened making it harder to play and your moisture is weakening it enough to make it playable. I would not continue with what youíre currently doing. They should play with...

Re: Forum activity levels

I think forum rule #1 dissuades a fair few competent pipers who would otherwise participate from doing so, not wanting to compromise their piping business interests.

Which is fine. Itís a good...

Re: Forum activity levels

I have recently, more frequently decided to post my ideas to my personal Facebook page instead of Dunsire. While Facebook posts are often set to public, still most responses are from people I know or...

Re: Am I really expected to play double d-gracenotes on certain triplets in jigs?

My apologies, I read double D gracenotes in the title and somehow that led my brain to think D doublings. I now understand you are referring to single D gracenotes on sequential notes.

I would...

Re: Am I really expected to play double d-gracenotes on certain triplets in jigs?

Some do, some donít. But if you play the E doubling in the 3rd bar, itís expected youíd play the D doubling in the 7th bar. Be consistent.

Re: Glenfiddich Tempos

I find 75 sufficient for many 2/4s. It would also seem I play them better at that tempo than sub-70.

Of course my expectations of pipers playing in the Glenfiddich are very different than any...

Re: Frankenpipe info needed

My cocuswood D Glen:
chanter stock is 4Ē @ 0.772Ē
blowpipe stock is 3.5Ē @ 0.773Ē

So 49.4/64 isnít really a thing but fairly close to your 51/64Ē.

Re: Glenfiddich Tempos

Sorry, that should say “125 down to 100” regarding the variation in strathspey tempos.

Re: How many sets do you 'run' at a time?

The used pipe market is saturated. The resale value of pipes is very low. Iíd just hold onto them. Youíd just be selling them to someone else whoís likely to let them sit. Unless you could really use...

Re: pipe tune associated with Henderosn's song John Maclean

Iím guessing the link didnít get posted.

There are 3 I know of:
1. Freedom Come All Ye - Bloddy Fields of Flanders
2. Banks of Sicily - Farewell to the Creeks
3. John MacLeanís March - Scotland...

Re: Rehearsal "activities"

Depends on what kind of band you wanted to play in. The last group I played with, I expected people to learn music at home.

All we did at rehearsal was play through the sets on the bagpipes (not...

Re: Balancing chanter

The only holes that noticeably change the pitch of other notes is the two tone holes that allow you to flatten low G. By taping them low A will go sharper, B not as much, and then it tapers off by...

Well, it allowed me to just play it in the browser without having an account.

I could only find 3 tracks that had highland bagpipes.

I donít really care for the tone of a practice chanter. I do...

Re: Reeding a 440 Maclellen chanter

That is a potential solution for when there is tape on high G, though not a solution I am likely to ever use because in most chanters it’s a reed issue that can solved by using a better matched brand...

Re: Transposition in sheet music

I think thereís only one more thing to clarify: there are chanters in different keys. The most common is D and the notes that are read off the music correspond exactly to the notes that youíll hear....

Re: How to Obtain Good Chanter Reeds

Gilmour are remarkable reeds. I get medium, and if too hard just a quick dip in water, blow the water out, wipe off the blades, and good to go. Not sure if theyíll give you a flat D in the RJM...
