Re: Problems with skins splitting

It's not the heads you have to worry about with Vaseline, but rather the bearing edge. I've seen dramatic warping of the wood surface from prolonged exposure.

New Andante Side Drums Available?

Some months ago, I remember reading that Reid Maxwell and SFU were working with Andante on an updated version of the Reactor side drum. (Keep the great Andante top head response but add a bigger...

Re: Jim Kilpatrick Practice Pad

Tom:

Hope you enjoy the pad as much as I have, but from that pricing, I think Offworld needs a Canadian distributor!

Re: Jim Kilpatrick Practice Pad

Tom:

I got mine from www.lonestarpercussion.com (http://www.lonestarpercussion.com) for $60 USD. Just for grins, I asked for a shipping quote to your part of the world and they said $22. Worth...

Re: Back in the Saddle

Mark:

Been there done that. Thoroughly recommend you work with a teacher for a few months. Makes a big difference and allows you to get beyond some technical limitations you may not have ever...

Re: Alfred's Drum Method Book 1

Not familiar with the Alfred text, but would certainly recommend "Doug Stronach's Pipe Band Snare Drum Tutor" (http://dougstronach.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=23)...

Great Drumming at the Worlds

Tons of enjoyable drumming on Glasgow Green. I'm still watching and rewatching the vids, but so far I've been super impressed with FMM. To my ears, this has to be the tightest, most aggressive FMM...

Re: Premier at the Worlds

Historically true, but I thought SFU's 8mm Andantes sounded nice and full. Of course they did have 11 sides playing with great execution...

Re: A Technique Question...

My general thought is that the judge has it all wrong. Although I love the 'art' part of traditional grip, there's nothing magical about it from a technique point of view in my opinion. (in fact,...

Re: cutting players

Can the player step in and play cleanly with the rest of the line? If so, I'd keep them. If not, I'd cut them. (Same goes for your regular attendees)

Re: Tips for developing dynamic range

I'm with Paul - the relationship between stick heights and volume is not fixed in our idiom. Playing softly with more arm / bigger heights or snapping in a Moeller accent from a low height is not at...

Re: Holy Cow!

Indeed - that was a good tip off. Good for both organizations. Done right, SFU & Andante should prosper and profit from the partnership.

Re: Quietest Practice Pad?

Great suggestions all - appreciate the info and will give this a shot. After all, time on the road (away from family commitments) ought to be a great window for practice.

Quietest Practice Pad?

Work commitments have me on the road quite a bit lately. Can anyone recommend a practice pad that has a good feel but is very quiet? So far each of mine (and there are many) has seemed unreasonably...

Re: Rain covers - coretec heads

Sounds like the 78th Fraser setup during the deluge in Glasgow. Looked like some sort of blue tarp material maybe fastened with some sort of bungee?

Re: Worlds Party!

Not Reid - James Laughlin after several years with SFU. Heading to the South Island of NZ to tip Canterbury's Grade 1 corps.

Re: Worlds Party!

Strongest FMM drum corps in years. I think that may put them over the top, but I'm certainly hoping for a great run from SFU a bit later.
