Very sad to intimate the passing of Edinburgh's Grand Old Man of Piping, Bob Kilgour.

Re: Varnish (and other stuff) on Pipes

I know that some bagpipe makers used to like a hard finish in order to stop pipes from cracking. Pipe Major Iain McLeod told me once that the very heavy, deep, immaculate finish they used to put on...

Re: Is it an "e throw"? (Lament for Mary McLeod)

You're describing a movement which does not exist if I'm reading this properly. I think it's an edre and you probably have a misprinted copy... should be lo a's.

Hard to be absolutely 100 percent...

Re: Balmoral not acceptable?

Personally, I don't get the whole hat thing. What has it to do with music? And we don't wear a military uniform, we wear the highland equivalent of a suit. How many people wear a hat with a suit...

Re: Foot Tapping

Re: Rubber bands

The cure for a wonky F on a pipe reed is to send it back to the maker - it's defective.

Re: Why an inverted bass drone Reed?

Some say that inverted bass drone reeds last longer as well. Around 1986 I made a set of them for the then Dunvegan Pipe Band, which was a Grade One outfit we all played in in Ottawa. A couple of...

Re: Video on Jack Yourt and The Wee Pipe Bag Tie-er-Inner

That poem was written by a wee guy called Jimmy Wilson, who was at the College of Piping in the early sixties.

He was a talented guy; at Dunvegan at a CoP summer school he gave my sister clarsach...

Re: 3-Corner File for Chanter Reed Mods???
