Another small maker sadly passed now is John Weston from Stirling.
John served his time with Hardies before joining Glasgow Police.
He started bagpipe making again when he retired and produced some...

That is quite simply the most appalling statement I have read on the whole issue of "antique" pipes.
The vast majority of absolutely first class, vintage, instruments will have ivory on them...

I've been researching this at length......Mainly because I do a lot of repairs on old pipes with Ivory.
I am in complete agreement with a ban on "new" ivory.....It is the rather narrow definition of...

Bottom line is these chanters are antiques.
They are sharper than "Orchestral pitch" and flatter than anything being played today.
I see you got it reeded around 474..........

Little doubt in my eyes.....I would date them mid 70s.
That's around when they used mix n match on mount materials.
I had a set very similar at one time.

DIY maintenance

I don't know if this is a new thing or not.......
I have been asked a lot recently to do maintenance on pipes that I would really consider the pipers job....... Hemping, Tying in, seasoning.....
