Re: Chanter bias?

If someone discredits a product without stating why, I ignore them.

It could be good advice but without stating why they discredit a product they either want you beholden to them or they are...

Re: C natural Key or Back hole on chanter which is better?

I think it would be better to just tape over the hole when not in use when you donít want to worry about it. Itís not that low.

Re: C natural Key or Back hole on chanter which is better?

Well, I'll have to throw my vote in for the thumb hole. The action on my keyed chanter is worn out (I bought this set 'used', though I'm not sure how much). The spring just doesn't return the key pad...

Nate, my bad, I read former but my brain understood latter.

Re: Practice pipes

It is what it is. The drones are closer to your ears. Changing the reed will change the tuning, likely away from where the drones are set to tune. Regular bagpipe reed wonít work at all; you have a...

Re: C natural Key or Back hole on chanter which is better?

Nate, my calculations show C (nat), using just intonation, comes in at 15 cents sharp of equal temperament. While Iím used to a justly tuned thumb hole, how much lower is your ET one? I felt the JI...

Re: C natural Key or Back hole on chanter which is better?

I assume the top hand pinkie will be responsible for this key? I think I have a C chanter like this though I havenít played it, Iíll try it later.

Thumb holes will never need maintenance. Going...

Re: Searching for tunes with a high B note

While I do have a smallpipe chanter with a high B key, most of these tunes I play on my John Swayne border pipe which can go up another half octave above high A; however these tunes on cursory...

Re: The BlowHard

How about instead, I send you some reeds to break in for me? Win win!

Re: Overthinking the movements

Perhaps the student is overly concerned with playing the technique perfectly at the expense of the music. Pretty common in highland piping. Sounds like practicing the music and the technique...

Re: Too much tape

Sounds like youíve just got a really easy reed. Carving out the bottom of a matched chanter so you can tape it is not the solution. The solution is a new reed.

Re: Your own funeral

Pipes are fine as long as they’re in tune and Amazing Grapes, Going Home, or Highland Catheter are NOT played, or I’ll haunt their drone reeds forevermore.

Re: Chanter bias?

Could have told him to shove it up his A hole, low or high. Iíve used that line twice today now. Go me. Assuming it was a he.

Re: Question: Correct Fingering For High-A Grace Notes

You are correct, there will be no top hand fingers on the chanter during that, and every other, high A gracenote.

Nameless Jig from PM Angus MacDonald's Ceol Beag from the Castle

The liner notes of this CD (http://www.lallans.co.uk/index.php/15-music/101-sscd-047) state "Nameless Jig" was by the same guy who wrote "Eileen MacDonald".

Perhaps the tune has a name and Angus...

Re: Pakistani Bagpipe Challenge

Just to clarify, I didn’t waste any money on the project (someone else’s pipes) and at the time it was to see if all the punters who can hear the difference between blackwood and plastic could spot...

Re: Pakistani Bagpipe Challenge

Easy way would be to just drop the pakistani drones into another pipes’ stocks. If for no other reason than pakistani stocks are generally smaller in outer diameter and it would be a waste of a bag...

Re: Tune ID help?

It reminds me a lot of Jock Stewart, but that’s a song and just not quite the same, especially since I don’t think it has a second part.
