Re: Chanter bias?
I had really bad experiences playing with one make of chanter in a band. They were just terrible. But other people like them a lot. It probably has something to do with a combination of the reeds,...

Re: Pipe bag for smallpipes
My mouthblown Soutar SSP are tied into a Banatyne bag. If you play highland pipes, the SSP are so easy to play you don't really need MC if you have plastic reeds. The bottle trap doesn't hurt, but I...

Re: Native American Flute
I played one once. Don't remember much about it.
I looked into buying one once, but it seems that they are considered sacred objects, so an authentic one is hard to come by.
For playing solo...

Re: Replacement reeds for Soutar smallpipe
I might check out the EZ drone reeds. I've been happy with the Soutar reeds, but I'm always looking for something different.
Let me know if you find a chanter reed that works well. I've been...

Re: Recording Bagpipes
I've done a bit of experimenting with recording pipes.
Here's one thing I've discovered. If you're trying to record with a single microphone, then an omni will work the best. The issue with...

Re: Replacement reeds for Soutar smallpipe
I have Soutar smallpipes. I suspect the reeds are made for the bores. When all three are going and in tune they sound nice.
I'm sure you could get replacement reeds from Soutar. Maybe they could...

Re: Bagpipes for wet conditions
It seems like if your drones are inundated with water they're not going to function... Even just condensation will tend to choke out reeds.
If you get a poly McCallum pipe it will come with a...

Funeral service?
To me it would make more sense to play outdoors (or maybe inside the building, but not in the room) as the people are arriving. That way people can stop and listen as much as they...

Interesting. The F to G on-center hole spacing on my Soutar SSP is 16mm. On my Nail PC it's 20mm. I never noticed there was a difference until I measured it just now.
What's the measurement on...

Re: LOUD Practice Chanter?
I haven't heard Roddy's PC's, but it seems like all PCs are pretty much the same thing, and the differences are mainly from the reeds. Gibson and Abbot PC reeds are LOUD.
