They're just a standard bagpipe...a little more petit than the full sized versions and a small amount quieter...like comparing a Glen to a Henderson.
The chanter sounded awful with modern reeds...so...

I also have an identical set....I traded them from a friend who wanted my very plain (no combing) McCallums as a back up parade set so his Hendersons would be safe.
I swapped out the chanter stock...

I have 2 of them, one in A and one in D.
They are both tunable by sliding the mouthpiece...and I've had no issues with using standard bagpipe fingering.
My only difficulty is blowing soft enough...

I found the original chanter hard to reed, but then again I didn't try all that hard.

For solo I have 2 chanters on the go, an MCC2, and the other is an older shepherd. I prefer to be around 475....
