Re: Dominant Naill drones - which reeds to use?

Very surprised that this is your experience with Ezeeís & would suggest either that with adjustment you will find an acceptable volume or, that perhaps the reeds are past their best.

If you want...

Re: Bagpipe ID ..maybe Starck?

No stamp on the drones or stocks. The chanter (which for some reason I retained when I sold the pipes) is stamped with (from memory) ĎH Starck & Late Wm. Ross, Kentish Town, London NWí.

Re: Bagpipe ID ..maybe Starck?

Iíd wager a fair amount of money on these being Starck - probably from the 40s or 50s. The first set of pipes I owned was virtually identical & I know was made in 1952.

Re: 25th Jan Tattle

And I was just commenting to Roger this morning that we'd managed to get to the 27th January without any posts on BDF about Burns Night experiences..........and that's still the case! Well done to...

Re: Tunes for Scottish Country Dancing

A few observations here......

A number of dances do have "preferred tunes" - at least to start & finish the dance with. For example, The Reel of the 51st's preferred tune is almost always "The...

Re: Chedari and friends

You'll find the Campbell Canntaireachd facsimiles are available to members on the Piobaireachd Society's website. Without checking, I think 'The Bicker' is there in Volume 1.

Re: Queen's Piper on hiatus

Surprisingly few serving or retired army pipe majors in the London area these days! Certainly a huge reduction compared to say even 30 years ago.

And itís not that simple either. Anyone with such...

Re: What are these pipes?

The link no longer appears to work but I'm presuming this is the set with an "Australian Naval connection " which went for £2853 (sterling). Short answer is "Don't know".

The item gathered my...

Re: 1 4-parted vs 2-2parted marches

At entry level junior and entry level amateur contests (for me as an adjudicator) 2 x two parted tunes well played with good continuity will always beat a mediocre or poorly played 4 part tune:)

Re: Position of drones - bag size

A cautionary note.......look at the alignment of your spine & how you might be compromising healthy posture before you decide that "Big is Best".

David Naill (Martin & Les Cowell) regularly remount pipes. Quite often these will be their own 'lower spec' models which the customer has later decided to add more expensive mountings too. Martin has...
