Re: Forum activity levels

Both of you have very valid points, and some good ideas.

I have been a member of forums that only allow you to post under your name (whether you lie about that is another matter), this was an...

Re: Thoughts on bottle traps?

The theory is as William and I have said above. The trapdri fits inside the tube. It causes a narrowing, altering the velocity and forcing air to change direction.
It is like a bit of black pipe...

Re: Thoughts on bottle traps?

I use a trapdri and bottle, and tbh the trapdri picks up pretty much all of the moisture and I just pour it off at regular intervals.

Interesting thoughts on the cloth, I would think all it really...

Re: Am I really expected to play double d-gracenotes on certain triplets in jigs?

High level players will play them. I play them too.

Just practice I'm afraid. Starting slow and building up. If you look at the dots and cuts the rhythm actually allows more time to perform it in...

Re: Glenfiddich Tempos

I had replied to this the other day, but I pressed back instead of minimise

I agree with (almost) everything said here. I suppose my frustration may well be with piping worlds head in sand...

Re: Glenfiddich Tempos

Sorry D, but you've missed my point. What is tradition? Where is the artistic variety?

Re: Glenfiddich Tempos

Exactly, this style has been 'established'. As a competition style, self serving, a technical masterpiece 'arguably' devoid of musicality. And, I can see the argument. But if you like that then...

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

That is a great example of developing an ear, something sorely lacking these days. Or maybe I'm just getting old!

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

And neither do I. I mean more generally in piping, and I understand where you are coming from regards competition, but to you and I what does it matter?

Re: Glenfiddich Tempos

All these discussions, competition tempo, competition pitch, piobaireachd competition style points towards that competition is now its own distinct, convoluted style of playing.

People playing to...

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

Pancelticpiper, what I mean is it doesn't matter a jot. I can't understand why so many people are hell bent on straining to hit certain Hz, rather than tune a chanter, balance it with drone and play...

Re: How many sets do you 'run' at a time?

Well. I've currently got 3 sets.

Set 1 - first ever set. Battered to hell and don't sound the best. Unstable, frustrating but will never sell. Never play them.

Set 2 - Borrowed MacLeods, basic...

Re: Kilts and proper kilts, Oy vey ist meir....

Then wearing the kilt as you know it is a faux pas. There is very little 'Highland' about what we wear now. But why get bogged down in the facts when we can all dress up like victorian shortbread...
