Some new music

I have been working on making some more contemporary music involving bagpipes and just wanted to see what peoples thoughts on this were.

Re: Old new drummer

It's pretty much the same. The only difference is that playing a tenor drum is much simpler and requires a lot less dexterity then playing pipes. So you could probably learn to play the drum fairly...

Re: tenordrumming.com - launched

Good point. I'm wondering though, did you contact him personally about this before you decided to post it on here? Maybe if you're really concerned you could let the people who hold the copyrights...

Re: tenordrumming.com - launched

That's what decent people do. Some people just like to stir the pot though, because they're pathetic.

Re: Conquest Mallets - Initial Thoughts

So what exactly is in the inner core of your mallets? Is it some different type of foam, or something completely different from all the other brands?

Re: Best way to kick someone out of the tenor corps?

You suck, goodbye usually works. You can tell them to take some time out and that if they want to play with you in the future they need to bring there level up to where everyone else is. If you feel...

Re: Solo competition etiquette?!?

There really aren't any written rules of etiquette for solo's that I've ever seen. Basically just wear your uniform and take off anything that might really stand out. It mostly depends on the judges...

Re: North American Pipe Band

I'm actually the best at everything and pretty much taught everyone everything they know. I'm just to humble to show off.
SDBagpiper deserves some credit for using my training to be the first and...

Re: North American Pipe Band

I don't know that we lost any of our pipers to them. Most of the names I've seen people listing as members are former players from our band. They haven't played with us in at least a year. As far as...

Re: So why all the apathy

That's total BS. I was a playing instructor for a while and it's not a big deal. The contests are only 6 minutes long. Either you have some really pathetic people instructing and most likely only...

Re: Source for real black-cock feathers?

If you could get your hands on a black cock you could just tug one out real quick.

Re: 8 tenors in G1 bass section?

Imagine a band with 10 tenors. Somebody would need to make new pipe chanters so the pipes could keep up with all the tenor notes. Now if that's not innovation I don't know what is.

Re: 8 tenors in G1 bass section?

8 tenor drummers would be cool if they are all good. Also they better have some good scores. It probably won't be anything spectacular though.

Re: How to memorize music?....help?

Do what works best for you. I would recommend breaking the tune up though. Play through a part once with the music in front of you then try playing through it again without it and do this over and...

Re: Grade 1 Pipe Band

You might want to ask some grade one bands that you might be interested in joining what they are looking for and whether or not they are looking for more tenors. Send an email to anyone you can find...

Re: Starting a 3/4 march

Um just a thought but if you need to feel like the drums are playing 12312312 then count it that way. They play a roll on beats 1-3 in the first measure then 23 on the second into the downbeat of the...

How is the stems being down causing anyone to relearn reading. Everything is written the same. If anything the only part that might take a bit of getting used to is the fact that the hand it is...

Re: speed /tempo of flourishes.

16th notes is it a good place to shoot for for single flourish's. So for the standard roll off example you wanted you would do 4 rotations on the left hand then 4 on the right. When you do the...

Brian, you say you've got grade 2 band tenor experience. What if any solo experience do you have?

What's your basis for thinking a snare drummer explaining snare drumming to a piping judge is...

Re: On Beat or Back side

Ok what he means is that he wants you to play slightly behind the beat. Like if you listen to a metronome the tick is the beat. Then of course you have a bunch of ways you can subdivide that beat...

Re: Rhythm Tenor Mallet Review

Yeah I would say go with the Mayor mallets. They're cheaper than the tyfry's and sound good. Then maybe if you ever feel the need to do some flourishing you will still have the option.

Re: Las Vegas results anyone?

If you just cut out all that time you waist sleeping you could have had plenty of free time. I gave it a shot and it went well.

Re: Band not listening to tempo of bass drum
