How best to remove the chanter?

I have had a few chipped reeds in my time, and im VERY cautious when inserting the chanter, mm by mm.

I do band practice 2 times a week for about 2 hours.

We have recently been off the pipes for about 2 months, and Im struggling to play a steady tone.

Sort of leaning towards the Bagpiper one, the extra pockets you described sounds better for me, as the hardie one may be sturdier, but it will only goes in a car and under my bed.

Update on the whole band thing, there was a band in my area that i never knew about, and they are grade 3 and have accepted me in!, more competition focused stuff which is what im after!

I would go solo, and only play for myself, but i feel that i havnt mastered the skills needed to get it started.

for example, tuning the chanter. (drones i can do fine)...
