Re: Neophyte Questions About Gibson Fireside Pipes

Does Seth make a Fireside chanter reed? If so, is it a great improvement over Gibson's?

Gibson quality change?

Gibson Bagpipes were sold around a year or so ago and I wondered if anyone has ordered new ones and if the quality is the same as when Jerry owned it? If so, is it better or worse?

Thanks!

Smallpipe drone configuration?

If you were ordering smallpipes in the key of A, would you go with a Bass, Baritone Tenor drone set or Bass, Tenor Tenor?

Thanks!

Seth Hamon reeds in Firesides?

Do Hamon reeds fit in the Firesides with the drone shut-off valves without modifying the drones? I've heard that the drones need to be "drilled out" with Ezeedrone reeds.

Thanks!

Is there any way to make "Fireside" smallpipes sound "brighter" or alternative?

Is there any way to make a set of "Firesides" sound a little "brighter"? Are there any other mouth-blown smallpipe (non-BP) alternative suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: SSP chanter/BP drones a good idea for a beginner?

Thanks for the advice, everybody.

Nate, I will check out the web page and video.

I know the BP chanter is harder to tame than a SSP chanter, but I'll tame them both.

Good one, John! I think that I'll call them what I think is the most romantic: Scottish Lowland Bagpipes.

I guess it depends on how you want to use them. The plastic Walsh is more bulletproof, but I personally think that the real wood of the Gibsons sound better. Both are fun to play. Oh, both these...
