Re: What happened at McCain's memorial service

El Gaitero, do you still have that reed? As I get older my reed requirements are changing. I play somewhere between a feeble and a medium feeble reed. :thumb:

Re: What happened at McCain's memorial service

Lowering expectations and awarding participation trophies would solve all of this.

I don't know why but I'm gonna go practice. Carry on.

Re: What happened at McCain's memorial service

If you guys accept that performance on the world stage in front of millions of viewers as simply a "bad day" what would you consider a really good day? Half as many errors and problems?

If we...

Re: What happened at McCain's memorial service

New piper and scared to death. Should have said "No but I'll help you find a qualified piper."

Tune name?

Can anyone tell me the name of the tune played at the end of this video tutorial- https://www.bagpipe-tutorials.com/lord-macdonald.html
It comes in at 4:46.
I'm drawing a blank, thanks much.

Re: The Mist Covered Mountains of Home

I don't think you can go wrong playing it like Sandy Jones and USAF Pipe Band.

Re: Garolite bodied drone reeds expand when wet?

I would agree. The reed I checked is younger, 7 or 8 years old. There very well could have been a material change.

Garolite bodied drone reeds expand when wet?

This was posted under another topic reffering to Canning drone reeds but I think it deserves its own thread-

"A major diff is one uses a body material that can swell with moisture...leads to too...

Re: My personal experience with Blackwood pipes (had no choice but to attach it)

Hi Michael, learning how to set up your pipes will go a long ways towards achieving the sound you're looking for. There are lots of good (some bad) spoken tutorials on YouTube to help.

Re: Unusual bag/cord covers?

I made a cover with skulls printed on the material. It comes out only for bar gigs on Halloween.

Re: Cannings! Thanks everyone

I started playing in the mid '80s. What I want my pipes to sound like honestly hasn't changed in all this time. How I fine tune and zero in on that sound has definitely gotten better, both with my...

Re: Cannings! Thanks everyone

I play Canning's in my tenors, love 'em.

Both the regular and inverted poly bass reeds sound fantastic in my pipes with beautiful harmonics... but they're too touchy for daily use. Lord knows I've...

Re: Londonderry Air?

I think it's an absolutely beautiful tune.
Playing it on bagpipes ruins it for me, the high note verses are fingernails on a chalkboard.

If you like it, play it. I choose not to. Maybe if you...

Re: 'Life' of orange indicating gels?

Yup, it is safer to use White non-indicating beads if you're prone to lots of handling and skin contact or breathing in dust. White beads are also cheaper. Get a cheap gram scale to figure out when...

Re: Leading a procession

Good point. Out in the country here the cemeteries are small and the walk from vehicles to grave side is short, churches likewise. Up in the Chicago area some of the cemeteries are so big I needed a...

Re: Leading a procession

That's excellent. I guess if the family insisted on Danny Boy and the money was good I could lead the funeral procession on 5-string banjo. :thumb:

Re: Leading a procession

Funerals are easy, I base everything on terrain and age of the mourners. The elderly may have canes or walkers trying to navigate hilly grass up and down or worse, across the side of a hill.
