Re: Celtic Arts Winter School

The only negative thing I ever hear is that itís a bit pricy compared to some of the other options out there, but when you look at the instructor lineup I believe itís a great deal and definitely...

Re: 6/8 Steamboat from the Nutcracker Ballet

Pip01, the section where it is heard (at least by those of us that hear it  ) is in Act 1, Scene 1, No. 3, "Children's Gallop and Entry of the Parents". To save yourself the effort, although I...

Re: Polypipe makers mark

Dunbarís usually have the name stamped in the cord grove on the drone tops, not sure about the other maker?

Re: Controlling nerves

One thing that I found really helped me with getting a bit more comfortable in the circle was making a recording of the band playing at practice and then using that to practice with back at home....

Not sure on the name, but having a link to the video you are referencing will probably get more people to look at it and then someone is likely to know it.

Re: Too Large Pipes?

Not sure how suffering for 15 years with a Bagpipe that didnít fit you was much better than having a good instructor? Personally I would rather have someone that has decades of experience help me...

Re: Too Large Pipes?

I'm glad you were able to find someone to help you with this, but I'm surprised it wasn't your instructor (assuming you have an instructor, but if not, now you know another reason why its a good idea...

Re: Two drone macLellan studio pipes

It sounds like you have an A chanter, not a Bb, if its tuning at 440?

For a chanter with a flat upper hand, you would sink reed in to get low A and high A in tune, then hopefully that will bring...

Re: Balancing chanter

If you have to tape your low A, it sounds like you are still trying to hit a number (480 in this case) rather than getting your As balanced. Try to just get them in tune with each other with no tape...

Re: Tin Whistle to Play With GHB

Unless your guitarist friend is also a piper, there is no need to get a whistle with special fingering like the Elfsong.

As for playing a whistle with the GHB, unless you are going to mic the...

Re: Dunbar's Delrin Kitchen Pipes :)

Not really, they are whatever a standard practice chanter is. Iíve managed to get a Dunbar with a Gibson Reed to tune to 440 at one time, but most of the time itís neither 440 or 466 but wandering...

Re: Dunbar's Delrin Kitchen Pipes :)

While they are a form of small pipes, they aren't what most people think of when they use that term, and you wouldn't want to take them to a small pipe group to play with the others as the chanter...

Re: "Fuss Factor" of cold-wind pipes?

So if you just don't feel up to playing the big pipes, are you really going to be up for sitting down and strapping into a set of bellows to play for a while? True, you don't have to deal with the...

Re: Balancing chanter

To start to tune the Chanter, find the spot where the low and high As are in tune with each other. Donít worry about what Hz it is, or any of the other notes, just keep moving the reed until the two...

Re: Chanter bias?

Sounds like the instructor had a personal investment in selling the xyz chanter to me, and I would fully agree with everyone above that if your happy with your current abc chanter just stick with it....

Re: MacGillivrary Website

Try using this link:

https://piping.on.ca

If you click on the link from Google search, it puts a www. in front and I get a 404 error, but if I go to the link above, it loads just fine.

Re: drones

Easiest way is to do a cutoff and then re-strike in bringing them all back on. Some times you can flick or pop them back on (simple enough to do, but rather hard to describe via typing, but its...

Re: Thoughts and experiences on-line lessons

I've been taking on-line lessons, via Skype, for about 10 years now, and it has taken me from a beginning piper to placing in grade 1 competitions, so I would say it works.

As previous posters...

The games in Great Falls and Hamilton are the only ones with piping...

I've already been in contact with Brad, and gotten him in contact with the PM of the closest band, but for general information here is what is going on in the state as far as piping and pipe bands...

Some things that were suggested to me, that seem to have worked, are...
