Re: Third time..crash and burn
You might consider contacting the North Coast Pipe Band (https://www.ncpb.org/), or The College of Wooster Pipe Band, or Jon Maffet at The Piper's Hut (in Pickerington, which I know isn't very...

Re: What does the EUSPBA do?
Right now, one thing a competition affords us, as pipers, is an educated and appreciative audience. I would say that, as an entire community of performing artists, we pipers have generally have...

Re: Worst venue of 2018...go!
I don't want to name names, as I think that would be tantamount to volunteering to help organize the event next year, but... if judges' tables are on the edge of a road, and competitors...

Re: Judges and Manuscripts
I agree with your post, except I’d strike the “un”. I think we’re all looking for a musical performance to occur, and it’s only the player who has the opportunity to bring the music out of the score....

Re: Judges and Manuscripts
I think it’s asking too much of a judge to know every setting of every piobaireachd ever composed, but I think we also don’t want to be limited, as competitors, in what tunes and settings we play....

Re: When is a Piobaireachd not a piobaireachd
If anyone wants to hear "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", a.k.a. "The Star's Salute", a.k.a. "Cumha Shinichi Suzuki", here it is: https://youtu.be/Zh96vfM8LCQ . I apologize in advance for the memory...

Re: When is a Piobaireachd not a piobaireachd
Wonderful! I love that title.
As mentioned in The Voice article, Mozart composed twelve variations of Twinkle, Twinkle, although he knew the melody by another name. Zwölf Variationen in C über...

Re: Tunes other than Kilberry and Piob. Society
Since you're in Philly, I assume you'll be competing in the EUSPBA. My experience in EUSPBA competitions has been that judges are quite happy to hear something new, either new to them or new as in...

Re: When is a Piobaireachd not a piobaireachd
Definitely not -- assuming that we define "piobaireachd" to include The Pretty Dirk and The Old Woman's Lullaby, to name two very short tunes that seem pretty universally to be considered...

Re: Drone spacing for kids
I would space them pretty close together, 5-6 inches. Also, if the lowest bass projecting mount is large, it can be very uncomfortable for some kids -- you might consider removing it (if feasible) or...

Re: And now for something completely different
Lovely. There's a harp recording of "Lament for the Harp Key" on the Allison Kinnaird and Christine Primrose album "The Quiet Tradition" that I've found very informative, as well as just worth...

Re: competing without bag cover?
The latest version of the EUSPBA rules contains zero mentions of the term "cover" and zero mentions of the term "bag " (the word bag followed by a space). So it looks like you're in the clear -- as...

Re: Your first time competing
Nice article. Since you were too humble to mention it, I'll point out that your 1st in piobaireachd was a 1st out of 10. :)

Re: Mac-1 chanter from MacLellan
I have both a Shepherd Mk 3 and a MacLellan solo chanter. Both sound good. The hole spacing on the MacLellan is a bit closer together than the Shepherd. If you find the Shepherd fits your hands well,...

I think you're looking for self-fusing silicone tape. Here's one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HWROLIG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Re: Large mouthpiece protector
I use silicone tubing from FreshWaterSystems.com. Specifically:
Silcon Silicone Tubing 3/8 ID x 1/2 OD x 1' - 25 foot roll
Part # 280-0608:25FT
This fits fine on Airstream and MacLellan...
