Re: Kilts and proper kilts, Oy vey ist meir....

This discussion comes up from time to time.

Pipers (and drummers) aren’t the only musicians who are “expected” to wear a certain thing when performing.

Most symphony orchestras wear tuxedos...

Re: Stolen smallpipes in Tucson, AZ

This. About 10 years ago, someone stole my trumpet out of my truck. Called every music store in the area and gave them a detailed description of it. Got a call that night from a store about 20...

Re: Canmore zipper durability?

I once had a bag (different make) that the zipper was solid, but the zipper pulled away from the bag after about 10 years leaving a gaping hole.

Made the last half of that parade REALLY hard to...

Re: Canmore zipper durability?

If it’s the same TiZip zipper that most other bags use, it’ll last a good, long time. Just make sure to keep it lubricated with the silicone lube.

Re: Temperature and Humidity effects on Piping

Are we ignoring the fact that the reeds are still exposed to the atmospheric air through the bore of the chanter/drones?

And how long does it take for air taken into the lungs to saturate? Would...

Re: ? Pre-1900 Henderson Pipes - ebay

I really like the bass midjoint in the chanter stock. Definitely a nice touch.

Re: Leather Pipe Bag Tie-in Issue

Make a leather punch out of a copper t-joint by filing the edge sharp and use that to recut the holes if they’re too small. Pick a diameter of tubing a little smaller than your stocks.

Re: Competition Breakdown

If you finished the tune, it wouldn’t be a breakdown.

The only time I’ve broken down in competition was during a piobaireachd a few years ago. Got to the end of the second line of the urlar and...

Re: Ebay custom Edenbourl bagpipes

Definitely McCallum AB4 Deluxe set.

Priced out on Piper’s Hut, with every expensive upgrade I can make, I can only get the price up to $1980 USD. Not sure where the seller bought them, but if...

Re: Hardie or MacDougal

The McDougals will be considerably older than the Hardies.

In general, McDougal drones are highly desired and many modern makers are copying their specs in reproductions.

Hardie drones are...

Re: Rspba

Here with WUSPBA, it can take weeks or months for results to be posted online.

I’d say RSPBA has their act together much better on that front.

Re: Balance Tone VS. BT High Resonance Drone Reeds

I’m guessing the USA set is the same as the regular reeds, just in red, white, and blue.

Re: Head shakers

A DM doesn’t mean great musicianship. One of my piano professors couldn’t find beat 1 on a metronome.

I used to teach the pipe and at a local high school. The pipe band would accompany the marching band for parades and the assistant director would always say to me “have them play that one bagpipe...

Re: Anyone know these pipes, wood? Maker?

If you’re happy with how they look and, more importantly, how they sound, then screw what other people say.

That’s a bold statement considering people like Ringo and Jim McGillivray are regular contributors to this forum.

Re: Chanter reeds, what makes good, what makes bad?

Re: Bit of a 'crack' problem needing some advice please

Re: Chanter reeds, what makes good, what makes bad?

That’s interesting. One of my professors in college who is a professional oboe player said she harvested some cane when she moved to San Diego to make reeds but found it to be wholly unsuitable for...
