Re: Pipers dilemma

Repip,

Commiserations (inadequate word) on the limitations, but to me your choice is a no-brainer.

Keep the set you enjoy playing the most.... seems to me if you move that set on you’ll always...

Re: Your first time competing

Pppiper/Nate,

What a thoroughly enjoyable read your article was- thanks both for writing and for sharing the link here.

I competed as a youngster 1965-1974-ish with some amateur success but...

Re: Quality Bellows for SSP's

I bought a set of SSP plans a year ago from Simon Hope - he’s still in the wood turning business but not making pipes due to other projects, he told me.

I asked if he’d sell me plans for his...

Re: Kilt, pleat to Sett or Stripe?

Very nicely put, including a number of things I’d never considered. Most interesting, thanks :thumb:

Re: Kilt, pleat to Sett or Stripe?

My band kilt (Prince Charles Edward Stuart) is pleated to the line and looks great.

My family kilt (Ancient MacLaren) to the sett and (imho) is fine too.

I vote ‘sett’ just because I’m a...

Re: Dowel reeds

Perhaps not directly transferable to GHB, but I had some fun last year building a set of smallpipes from plastic and brass tube and epoxy, courtesy Eric Reiswig’s online ‘how to’ instructions...

Re: What is the longest time you have played without stopping?

Between this and a couple of other threads running at the moment I think such a support group deserves serious consideration!
If it gets off the ground please count me in 😳🤗

Re: Why am I so nervous

Yes, I’d like to know too....

Didn’t notice the 2014 date to begin with but my story sounds very similar to Redmists, but a couple of years later (I even grew up in Derbyshire!).

18 months back...

Re: New G. S. McLennan March

Many, many thanks Jim.... hadn’t seen it and am a huge fan of this kind of tune.

But while I’m on, thanks too for all the great tunes from your own website -

In particular the presentation of...

Re: Cutting Bag for Tie-In

I was taught to use the star cut, but once tied off, to remove the points and leave behind as smooth a circle as possible.... just for neatness; no other reason.

Never did get used to making the...

Re: Flying with Pipes

Agree with Ppp....baggage holds may be both unpressurised and unheated and the temp at 35k will be “minus lots” even in hot climates....lapse rate of around 2 degrees F per 1000 ft means 35000 = 70...

Re: 1953: Pipe Band passes on Lawrie pipes for pipes from Pakistan!

Anybody else lament the passing of the 1953 ability to speak truth even in the press without somebody being insulted?

Well said, Mr Manager!

I’m all for non-discrimination but today’s level of...

Re: Cane drone reeds

Thanks Calum for the clear and simple explanation :thumb:

I’ve seen the metronome synch trick before and appreciate the comparison, but not entirely convinced it can be so literally applied to...

Re: Cane drone reeds

Hope this isn’t a silly question, but most of the technicals of frequencies and harmonics are so far above my head as to be incomprehensible.

But after a few decades of piping I do know what I...

Pakeha...no, I don’t tutor, unless you count helping out those who haven’t travelled as far along the road...I do what I can to assist, as do several others in my current band, and between us we seem...

Re: Bag length as important as bag depth?

Wouldn’t argue your math, and in the very precise circumstances you describe I guess it works.

My exerience has been less about very precise measurements and more getting on with it...hence my...

Re: Bag length as important as bag depth?

I’d make a few observations...

Firstly, length and depth are equally important....meaning you need both in order to make a bag....you need width as well, to make it 3-dimensional in order to...

Re: Wedding malfunction, YouTube

Abbott, please be reassured that (imho) your situation is entirely different.

A school review to demonstrate progress/improvement is a world away from accompanying a happy couple’s special day.

You might find you’ve just had a run of 50:50.... feeling lucky at coin-toss games?

Happy to align with Army Bagpiper here, although a lifetime civilian myself.
