Re: Hardie Twist Trap Practice Pipes

My first thought upon seeing them, was that they were essentially rebranded kitchen pipes (http://www.hotpipes.com/kpipe.html).

I had a set and wasn't super impressed with them. But maybe Hardie...

Re: eBay strikes back

The engraving looks slightly better than what normally comes from Pakistan. But only slightly.

The real giveaway for me was the profile of the upper portion of the drone, especially the bells....

Re: SPJA mess on Piping Press

Don't worry, they didn't change the meaning between you earning your BM and earning mine a few years back. And I doubt they've changed it in the last few years.

Re: electronic tuners that work with pipes

We've switched to the Peterson as well. I couldn't swing for the actual one, but for $20USD, I bought the iPhone version (made by Peterson) and the world tuning sweetener package to have GHB specific...

Re: Kilt hose recommendation...

Are you looking for solid hose? Or maybe diced? Or argyle? Or....

I have a pair of argyle top hose that I wear for solo stuff that, I think, look really nice.

Re: 3 Lines of hemp to hear the unicorn fluff

Find me a recording from the 60s or even 70s of a G3 or even G2 band that plays with the same intonation as a G3 band today. Even the G1 bands back then weren't quite as in tune as a G3 band is today.

Re: 3 Lines of hemp to hear the unicorn fluff

It could be that the judge thought the kids did really well in their performances and said this in order to help them get the most out of their pipes and go farther in the next level.

Re: Pipe case - which one?

I use this case. (https://www.wwbw.com/Protec-IP301T-iPAC-Triple-Trumpet-Case-H75791.wwbw) I know it's for trumpets, but the inside is completely customizable.

I took out one of the interior...

Re: Drone reed tongue length and stability

Even though Crozier reeds are backwards, in that regard, it should hold the same principle for regular reeds, too.

It would make sense that a longer tongue would be more stable - more material to...

Re: 3 Lines of hemp to hear the unicorn fluff

I think so. Caused by the wood being thinner there than in segments below the mount, making the hire look wider.

Re: 3 Lines of hemp to hear the unicorn fluff

I guess I misspoke. Every drone for GHB has a tuning chamber. I can't imagine an upper bore that's as wide as the tuning chamber or a tuning chamber as narrow as the upper bore.

Since you mention...

Re: Pakistani bagpipes

I'm guessing this was a joke as there is a pretty well known video of a piper attempting to pipe for a wedding.

Re: New pipes, blackwood / boxwood / cocobolo mounts

I've never owned pipes with wood mounts, but I know those who do. I've never seen any issues with their wood mounts being less durable than imitation ivory mounts or the wood of the pipes themselves.

Re: What PC does your band use?

Everyone uses a different PC and reed.

We've talked about everyone getting the same setup before, but it hasn't happened.

Re: Bagpipe maker?

This isn't unheard of. The 60s(?) Hendersons that I learned on had catalin rings with ivory bushings. I think the thought of the day was the bushing material would impact the sound so they made them...

Re: Covers and cords Fashion

I would go for a darker colour to help bring out the silver and ivory of the pipes.

But otherwise go with your favourite colour for the bag and an understated trim (I'm, personally, not a big fan...

b) When I hear mistakes (I'm the PS and have a degree in music education, so I'm good at finding the culprit)
c) All other times

Gannaway bags aren't hybrid bags, but rather leather that have the options of zippers and collars.

I had a zipper, no collars, bag for almost a decade. Was a fantastic bag. Had to retire it when...

Re: Left-handed Pipers?

I was thinking the same thing. But even if played off to the left, the lip plate would be backwards making it damn near impossible to get a halfway decent sound.
