Re: Learning to sight read

Hm.

That one sounds familiar!
Oh wait, I know why. Because I asked you at rehearsal last month! Silly me!.

Learning to sight read

Just a quick question for those of you who are good at it or teach it. How did you or how do you teach others to sight read effectively? I know that many people learn to sight read over a long period...

Re: HTS 800 - Photos

My band ordered last September if memory serves and we're still waiting too. We ordered from Cliff. We're all licking our chops over here in anticipation of getting our hands on 'em.

Re: Cybermax head failures

You'll want to contact your dealer for specifics but this is a known issue. There are two separate sizes basically of the cybermax, one that fits the HTS200 and one for the 700. If you get the wrong...

Re: Scottish ancestry blah blah blah

I'd vote nay, er, no.

The idea that a person might have some kind of special affinity for the pipes because of Scottish/Irish etc lineage is ludicrous from a genetic perspective. I never took the...

Re: Solo drumming tips?

Excellent tips Tomm. I'd add a couple:

1.) Show up early so you aren't in a rush and so you'll be sure you'll be ready. No running around for anything.

2.) Eat a banana the night before and the...

Re: Tempos for MSR's.

It probably depends a lot on your particular score and of course the tune (i.e. how fast your piper can play it!) but here are my target tempos for my current MSR (Gr. 3):

March: 76
S/P: 114...

Re: Finding Pipers for Solo Drummers

It would cool not to have to depend on a piper's generosity to do solo competition. "Solo" = Not quite accurate. How would you time you start playing with the beginning of the file though? Maybe I'm...

Re: Re-finishing premier hardware

I've heard painting is not very durable, i.e. chips very easily off the Premier hardware. Powder coating appears to be the best solution. I haven't found anyone to do it yet though. I'd be interested...

Re: Drags vs. Dead Sticks

Big Dog,
I feel ya, I used to feel very much the same as you. I could hear no difference whatsoever between a flam and a drag and wondered the same thing, why bother? The difference for me came when...

Re: Drags vs. Dead Sticks

I was taught a dead stick is exactly what it's name implies, it's dead, no buzz, nothing. This is a subtle textural sound. When played on an actual drum this technique has a distinct sound to it...

Re: New services for snare drummers

I've got to say, these are excellent ideas! I've got a great instructor and his input has been overwhelmingly helpful but this "E" contest would definitely add an extra element to my preparations for...

Yeah! Exactly what drew me to it as well! That ending is killer and the ruffs are placed just so.

I'm wading my way through some of the more common Duthart scores with my instructor and these two...
