Re: Learn it right the first time!

Hadn't heard it put in that exact a term but have heard the same basic principal in much of my training. Makes complete sense. Same with plateaus... Good stuff, thanks.

Re: Full Face Sporrans

Top one looks like an otter.

While not for everyone I think the full face sporrans are a nice touch.

Re: Wanted: Excercises in .bmw or .bww format

EXCELLENT post! I was just digging around the other day for exercises in bww format. Most of the links I found on the search were outdated. I'll do some more digging and see what I can find...

Re: Proper embellishments

In my own experience I found pushing myself to play faster defeated the quality of my embelisments. Despite my best efforts things still became muddled and the focus, if even subconciously, was...

Re: reading music

I agree with some here. Learning to read the music has been tough for me but the letters only confuse me more. However, use what works for you.

Re: Wish I had learned to play earlier

I'm right there with ya as far as wishing I'd started earlier. I started 2 years ago at 35. After about a year of work I put everything down to work on other priorities. Now, picking them back up,...

Re: Another time around...

South?! How about due east -.

I'd been on the pipes a few months, even marched in a parade, when I stopped. That's been over a year now. There was likely some redundency issues, as far as...

Can someone describe what over-blowing sounds like?

I realize this may seem like a "stupid" question. However I've never understood (maybe have never asked) the more subtle differences.

I've been away from my pipes and instruction for coming up...

Re: When does it get easier?

Practice is the only solution. Slowly is the best and that is a real struggle for me. I learn the tune slowly and eventually get up to "real" speed. Then I try to slow back down to work cleaning up...
