Re: Dunfion Smallpipe Chanter/reed

Hi, I have a Dunfion chanter somewhere at home. Can you let me know what type of reed it is - what colour is the thread and the blades (is it a synthetic reed)? If you want - PM me and I can also...

Re: Balance Tone VS. BT High Resonance Drone Reeds

Hi folks, I use the high resonance drone reeds in my pipes and I really like them. Very steady and air efficient when set up for your particular chanter reed strength. They keep their tuning very...

Re: New set by Pierre Blanchet

Brilliant, thank you so much Glenurquhart, I now have a better idea of the date, and it is good news that the chanter should be easier to reed. I really hope to get it playing for Piobaireachd soon....

Re: New set by Pierre Blanchet

No idea I'm afraid. Might even be wrong on the date, so any info based on the pics below would be really helpful. I cannot find a name stamp that I can read, although there is a hint of one above the...

Re: New set by Pierre Blanchet

Hi, I am trying to get a mid 19th century pipe chanter going, but I am struggling with modern reeds. Do you make reeds with a longer staple yourself? If so I would be very interested. Ta will

Re: Can anyone identify these?

I am not convinced they are Hardie. The projecting mounts don't look right to me for them to be Hardie. The chanter doesn't look like it has a maker's stamp, although it (as if often the case) could...

Re: Scottish Smallpipes - New Reeds for an Old Set

Hi, great looking set of smallpipes. Reeds can be quite specific to the drones for smallpipes. I would suggest sending to a well known smallpipe maker and getting them to fit drone reeds for you. It...

Re: adjusting chanter tuning with hemp

Wish there was a clear picture of chanter neck so that we could see the maker's stamp. All I can see is that the name ends in "R". Any ideas on the maker? Cheers will

Re: Additional note wish list.

I had the same "need" for more notes - so I bought a Lindsay system chanter for my smallpipes - extended range from low D to high D. Fantastic

Re: MacGoldrick bagpipes?

Yes I noticed that too. I wonder if at least some of it is because the old ivory was lying against a rotting pipe bag - that stains well into the ivory from the sets I have see in the past. Cheers,...

Hi, they look very good. I had a look at some of the other sets as well - very interesting. I wonder if they have their own turner or if they contract out?

Re: Searching for tunes with a high B note

Hi, you can use the free application Musescore (https://musescore.org/en) to do the transposing. It also has a function to import abc files.
