Re: Cold weather playing

As far as the pipes go, I say that the bag can make a big difference. I have to recommend the Canmore Hybrid bag for cold weather playing. They breathe so well that moisture was not an issue for...

How much kitty litter is in each compartment? Completely full? If so, when was it last dried?

Re: Pipe Bag Log and Inquiries

From what I've experienced or seen with people that play with chanters cocked to one side is that the circumference of the bag is too small where their left arm wraps around the bag. It doesn't mean...

Re: Reeding a Shepard chanter

The reed may need more play time on it before you do anything too drastic.

Troy McAllisters need moisture, so the High G might come down in pitch after some more playing to get some moisture on...

Re: How to deal with Flat Cs

Yep, C and F are usually the first notes to go wonky if the reed gets too wet. I'm wondering why you're wetting them at all?

Re: Chanters & Pitch @ 2018 World Pipe Band Championships

The beauty of sheep and goatskin bags! You don't have to squeeze the living bejeezus out of them like some synthetics to get a decent cutoff

FS: An uncarved McCallum 'Gandy' blackwood chanter. This is the new 2018 version. Easy to reed and great sound. I simply have too many chanters now, so I have to part with some of them.

Re: MG White Mambas Drone Reeds

Funny, I tried the set that just arrived in the mail and found the tenors went really well, smooth and easy to lock in. The bass...not so much. Either it was fighting the harmonics of the chanter or...

Re: "New" Husk Reeds

Played my pipes today for a wedding in 30C heat and 75% humidity. The reed didn't budge, stable for almost 3 hours of off and on playing.

Re: MG White Mambas Drone Reeds

Body material makes a difference. I find my Ezee Increased Absorption reeds more robust than the sets of regular Ezees I've played.

Re: MG White Mambas Drone Reeds

I do have a older set around here somewhere...or were those the Spitting Cobras? Perhaps I should trademark that one - moisture goes through the reed and flies back out under the tongue

Re: "New" Husk Reeds

I'd agree with these statements. The new (not so new now) reed design is fantastic. Bright, bold and vibrant. Oh, and extremely stable. The Piob High G was bang on without having to move the tape, a...

Re: most durable synth bag?

My Canmore Hybrid seems to be holding up well after 2 years. Can't go wrong with a Bannatyne, either. I think the big thing with synthetic bags is properly managing moisture to prolong their life.

Re: Best drone reeds for 1990's Kintail

Yes, I had a set of late 90's Kintails going well with a Henderson cane bass and Ezee tenors a couple years back. A Henderson Harmonic bass also worked well.
