Re: The Piper in Peace and War

When I saw the title of this I thought it was about Pipe Major John Wilson's book, "A Professional Piper in Peace and War." Also a great book.

I had the good fortune to have as my teacher one...

Re: George Sherar, NSW

Nick, I got the article and photos. Thanks for sending them.

Those are really great looking pipes. I surely would like to hear them, but I guess that sound is lost to time.

Re: Mary Ellen Conley

there's also a tune called, "Mary Ellen Carter," but its not a pipe tune. It's a sort of acoustic singer songwriter sort of tune.

Nice tune on a guitar or banjo.

Re: G&C pipes drone tuning heights

I've got a set of G & C's from the early 60's. When I played them with the original chanter the bass tuned a little higher, but since playing modern chanters the bass drone has always tuned at...

Re: Aluminum Bagpipes

Just a thought, how about titanium? Light, can be heat treated to any color you want.

I'm not a machinist so I don't know how hard it would be to make.

And I think it might be a bit pricey. ...

Re: Looking for 2 WW1 tunes

I think that the tune called " We will take the good old way," is the same as the "High Road to Gareloch". Both of these tunes are in the College of Piping's Tutor. The "Green Book"

Hopes this...

Re: Johnny Horton

That tune would sound pretty good on two guitars and a banjo. It would really suck on the bagpipes.

It constantly boggles my mind why folks want to play tunes on the pipes that just don't fit. ...

Re: Modified Chanter for "Star Spangled Banner"

In my admittedly biased opinion, if you want to play the Star Spangled Banner, call for a good military band.

It just ain't suited for the pipes. and I agree that it isn't suited to a lot of...
