Re: Help in identifying pipes. Maker? Wood?

I have some friends from Pakistan, and they use the term 'Paki' and don't seem offended by it..
With any speech/wordage, I think it's all in how the term is used..

Re: Polyester thread instead of hemp = game changer!

I started with o-rings, switched to hemp, then came back to O-rings. They are always exactly the correct size, never shrink/swell, and are almost 100% maintenance free. Once a year I may have to...

Your own funeral

I'm sure we all play lots of funerals.

Re: Too Much Tape

To sharpen, you need a shorter distance from the vibrating reed to the sound hole in the chanter. You can only sink the reed so much, or (like el gaitero says) it won't work well because it isn't...

Re: Help Improving Band Tuning

I made two 5 person water manometers. Routinely, we all hook up and play the whole practice while watching them. You can quickly identify any issues. It sure helps tuning when everyone can blow...

Re: Losing air at bass drone

That does seem logical, but Calum is correct.. In fact, I clearly remember being at a workshop with Ed Neigh and him saying the same thing: the drone reed is closed more than it is open (he even...

Re: Bag Sizing Confusion

Make sure you are in 'ballerina 1' position, with relaxed straight wrists (not bent and crooked under the bag etc.). A flexed wrist can affect those tendons all the way to the elbow! Adjust the...

Re: Over thinking the movements

In my limited experience, 'visual' learners (ie watching others) are usually not strong in reading music.

Get back to these building-blocks-basics:

- are they relaxed when playing?

Don't...

Re: Learning online for drumming noobs

I sat in with our snares for a lesson yesterday, and one thing that I have to work hard at is grouping movements that span over a beat. For instance, a 1 beat 11 buzz stroke with an eighth note...

I don't think Nicola is running that group anymore, but I may be wrong (haven't seen her in awhile). There is another fire dept group in Huntsville that meets regularly, they are very new and all...

Get some o-ring dunbars w/ synth bag and cork everything up until you land.. You could drop them in water and I bet everything inside would stay dry! Once you have landed pull the corks and start...

Re: Learning online for drumming noobs

Great attitude!
Are you getting any in-person lessons? My snares work with someone over skype and it really helps, but the video lesson sometimes miss things that would be picked up in person....

This is great advice- unless the PM PC is not correct.. :(
We sat in with a band and there were probably 15 of us around the table. The instructor methodically went around and spent copious time...
