Re: Exercises/tunes for returning player?

I think "Going Home" is a good first tune. It should be played slowly, and it sounds very nice on smallpipes.

Name of this Air?

Does anyone know the name of this air played by a German piper on a set of Hamish Moore reel pipes? It is very nice, and he plays it well.

Re: Tune suggestions for SSP in A and guitar?

Well, the tune is in the key of D major, so these are the guitar chords to look at:

I have the score for a smallpipe/cello...

Thanks, Joe. I have ordered it, along with More Power to Your Elbow, which I have meant to pick up. I have been playing duets with my wife on cello. It will be fun to see if some of the duets can...

Re: pipers in harmony

I did some checking around and could not find anything. It's an interesting title and does not seem to have been mentioned/discussed on the forums here. I found the following description. I hope it...

Re: Bellows bother

I apply beeswax when the connecting tube starts popping out. It fixes the problem for a few weeks until the next application. Adding hemp helps, also, if that is an option.

Re: Drones on shoulder

With my new pipes, I've been having trouble with the drones hitting things like the music stand, lamps, bookshelves, as I wander around the room. They have a much longer reach than the SSP.

So I...

Re: Tunes using C natural and/or high B for Smallpipes

You might have a look at the Battle of Waterloo played by Fin Moore.

He seems to have a C-natural in the second part. I like the sly sideways look...

Re: Seasoning Bellows-Blown Bag

I have never had to do anything on my own pipes. Here is what Hamish Moore says about his own bellows pipes:

"1. Airtightness. Never use a water based seasoning. If a dressing is needed at all...

Re: Oiling border pipes

Hi Alex,

Yes, Renaissance Wax is great. I use it, and the pipes do glow.

Hamish mentions four specific woods (ebony, almond, boxwood and yew) when he recommends oiling the pipes. So I got...

Re: Oiling border pipes

Thanks guys. Probably here on the California coast, once a year is enough. We have pretty mild weather.

I'll ask Hamish if he has any further information/advice about using linseed oil

Thanks!

Re: How do you fine tune a border pipe chanter?

That's funny... David Brewer out here in California also plays a Hamish Moore boxwood chanter, which has toned a bright orange-yellow, with tape on every hole. He calls it his "hornet".

Here he...

I have a really nice set of Hamish Moore reel pipes in ebony that I am becoming familiar with.

Re: Small pipes in A

I agree with teuchter. To see if the pipes and guitar are in tune with A=220, play low A on the pipes with third string, second fret on the guitar. Those should be exactly the same note. (I used...

Re: How do you fine tune a border pipe chanter

I have seen David Brewer's border pipe chanter. It is a Hamish Moore chanter in boxwood. He has tape on every single hole, I believe. Because of the stripes, he calls it his "Hornet".

Here he...
