Re: Anything on streaming The Worlds?

I will be seeing it live and in person. On demand of management, we bought the high class tickets, with sandwiches included. As she also required that we attend the Tattoo via
the Whisky...

G-1 makes an easy, and a Super Easy. Both play well.

Re: Hemp binding slips off

If you add some beeswax to the hemp and try to add some to the staple, I think your problem would disappear. If you flare the staple in any way, its a matter of time until your actions irreversibly...

Re: Competing without bag cover?

Covers actually do several jobs;
1. The historical reason is that the goo in the bag wants to get onto the outside of the bag, and from there leap to light colored clothing.
2. The cover...

Re: Chanter reed issues, going from low to high elevation

The problem with putting ice cubes in the bag, is when you drop something critical after doing that. Car Keys, Pocketknife, Wedding ring, whatever. When you bend over at the middle to pick that...

Re: 'Wet' vs 'Dry' blowers - a myth?

There is just too much wrong with the article (parts one and part 2) to provide an articulate response. I did enjoy part 2's assertion that the real issue is poor blowing and that moisture problems...

Re: Reeds for High B?

I think its those few reeds that have a very slightly different taper, and a slightly more elastic bit of cane. Thinner toward the business end, and a bit more rubbery cane. For me the next...

Re: Dowel reeds

I've seen (and made drone reeds for various smallpipes with square brass stock, but I do not recall doing so with square wood stock, though there is no reason that it wouldn't work. I think Mike...

Re: Dowel reeds

I've made some from dowels. Then again, I've made dowels. I suppose you could make drone reeds from square stock. I'm enjoying my process, and have found some good benefits from doing so.

Re: Cutting Bag for Tie-In

I generally cut stars, and then insert the stock after the leather is well wetted and stretchy. Then I put a hose clamp (jubilee clamp) on the points, round the stock, tightening things when the...

Re: Expanding reamer brand;recommendation for tone chamber

I'm with Calum.
Use the standard adjustable reamer. I use a tap handle to power mine, and just take the smallest amount at a time until I get the bore to be one dimension the full length of the...

Re: New Gannaway leaking neck?

Did you use the primer? ISTR that the directions called for that. I reprime mine every three years or so. It's required before seasoning, though if you have seasoned it first, just wash the inside...

Re: Troubleshooting a double-toning drone

I don't know, the bass drone in my Uilleann pipes does a 360 degree turn and seems pretty stable.

Re: Troubleshooting a double-toning drone

How well is the hemp done? If the hemp on the pin is a tarry mass of black hemp with no elasticity, it can certainly cause an issue as you describe. It can be gripping the top, but not sealing the...

Re: Highland pipes in G

Actually, I'm fairly certain that Colin Armstrong is the madman behind the Colin Armstrong double pipes, with Julian Goodacre there as facilitator. Not to take anything away from either of them....

Re: Queen Mary ScotsFestival Competitions?

I went and looked. Very Impressed. The play times start at 2:00 AM and proceed forward. That is some dedication, and arguably a very wide field, if the comps need to start at 2:00 AM.

Re: Mystery tune - Bill Wakefield "Tunes in C"

I had a few moments chat with Bill. As he recalls the tunes, Initially there was Tom Clough's Spirit of the Border, followed by three tunes off of a vinyl compilation album of Hamish Moore's called...

Gypsy's Dance

Matt MacIsaac put up a nice video of this tune. I didn't notice it was the Blair chanter until about halfway through, so I had to rewind and watch again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p771HUUrfwk

Re: Loudest synthetic bass reed?

Whatever Bass reed it is, if you open the bridle, so that the reed takes more air, it gets louder. If you "calibrate" the reed to be as air efficient as possible, it will have less horsepower. If you...

Re: Can't stop squeal on low G

Like everybody else, 1. Reed too easy. 2. Likely too much tape on High G (possibly my first choice these days). 3. potentially leaky fingering. 4. The distant possibility that there is air bypassing...

Re: Mexican Royal Ebony (Katalox) GHP pipes

Shawn said "I can see a lot of this in the future....the reboring of old ABW pipes that are considered subpar. Old into new, with great wood."

I think this is likely true. We will finally be...

Re: Brass lined drone

The glue used in the old pipes was almost certainly hide glue. It has a lot of advantages, even today. (There were alternatives, fish and rabbit skin are some.)

The adhesive releases with heat...
