Re: Morrill Bagpipes?

I've known the Morrill family for many years. Ross is a fanatic piper. It was inevitable that he would design and make his own pipes. I've been impressed with the sets he has produced. I am sure...

Re: No respect!

Picking this up from the drum corps instructor in my son's high school band. Does not care for Scottish style at all and is very offish toward me. I told him it's simply learning another style,...

Re: Difference between Adante bass drums

The floating head style is the original Andante Bass product. Personally, I really like this set up. The 28x18 with Remo Pinstripe heads had a really good decay and was easy to set up.

The other...

Re: Practice Pads

Tom is spot on with the Off World practice pad. I was using a Cameron Cadet pad but noticed my drags were coming off fatter on my snare drum. I switched to the Off World which is much closer to the...

Re: Costa Mesa Highland Games Results

We took on Glendora High School in Vegas. What a polished band. Good job. Saturday looked like a battle of the Naismeths with House of Scotland and Clan Gordon. Great job for all of you.

Re: Rebuilding A Band

Don't ignore the back end. If possible, find a drumming instructor who can not only teach basic rudiments, but can write simple scores as well. If they can't produce a basic corps in two or three...

Re: How long does it take your pipe band to tune?

Out of tune pipes are a pain to the ear. Let them tune. When they are ready, they can call over the drum corps, who should have been off in the distance working over their own settings.

Re: pipe band pith helmets 1982

In the early 70's the band I was with, The Salt Lake Scots wore Kitchner Helmets. They were great for summer parades. I have my Dad's helmet. I'll never part with it.

Re: The first rule of Pipe Band is...

If a Pipe Major is failing to help the band progress due to burn out, psychological issues, too busy, etc. Have a band vote and replace the PM. I've seen too many bands where the current PM stays...

Re: Basic grade level focus

This is for G4 and G5 bands that I've watched in competition
