On a few I’ve taken several minutes to open the staple crimp and position the rubber flapper more ideally ..then appropriately re-crimped the staple.

The issue with the ‘70’s technology Lil Mac is having to overbore the blowstick end to install it. Almost to the point ,if not careful,where using a flapper in the future won’t work.

I’ve used a 1/2 BB size ~1\16” ball of Blu-Tak mashed flat on to the reed tongue. Play around for the size that meets your needs.

On the other hand,...there are plenty of good+ Pipers who can’t....and do study an unknown piece on the practice chanter to ‘get it’...then knowledgeably progress towards a desirable tempo.
