:willy: yes

Mostly when I'm trying to record something, and continually fluff it!

Re: I hate my bagpipes

I had a set I hated, couldn't get them tune, or stay in tune. Hated them. But after sometime, years, they became very easy to tune and would be stable for long periods. Looking back now it seems the...

Re: Drone Stability/Consistency

That's not what I asked, but thanks anyway.

No! Steady! I am interested in what constitutes 'many', and which makes/models the fellow has had personal experience where the drones are 'not...

Wow, that's quite a statement. Which makes have you personally had this experience with?

Re: Your 2019 setup?

If that is the case, I find it odd. All the pipes I've used them in it has been a toil to get them to tune high enough. I'm not even playing the latest stratospheric pitch that most bands and...

Re: strange Ebay double listing

Bass stock looks odd too, doesn't seem to match.

And he'll pay postage? Is that normal?

Re: Thick People

These sort of requests are the reason I gave up doing 'gigs'. That and having to play utter tosh like 'Highland Cathedral' over and over :willy:

He who pays the piper and all that, so now no-one...

Re: Your 2019 setup?

Yeah, used too much. Put a small sausage shaped piece in instead of a bb shape.

Set up the xtreme with the blu tack today, got them tuning nice and high on their pins. What revalation the reeds...

Re: Your 2019 setup?

Yeah they do, I tried that but I obviously made a porridge of it by using to much blu-tak. I'll try again, as above thanks.

Xtreme bass is amazing, but found with my pipes it worked best with the...

Re: GDED gracenote timing in Donald MacLeod's reel: Roderick MacDonald

I really liked the LSSL, its all preference though. I have read that some composers omit dot cut as its up to the individual piper to decide.

Pipes sound nice too :thumb:

Naill drones
Ezeedrone reeds (also love the Xtreme but can't get the tenors to tune high enough)
Early Shepherd Mk3 chanter
Shepherd reed
RG Hardie flexi blowstick

Re: Pinkie Finger Down for Quick C?

Personally, I'd be striving for a closed C. However in a band setting unison is the key, so if you are struggling in that respect a cheeky open C won't matter a jot. But in my own time I'd be...

Re: Drone reeds air escape...

That's normal, air will be escaping all the time during that test.

Some drone reeds perform better than others but I'm not convinced that its a good indicator of an air efficient reed.

If you...

Exactly. There is also no point in an instructor that can't execute what he is describing.

Re: Dojo university?

Its all above me too! So don't worry :thumb:

What it highlights to me is that, there are plenty people who will offer 'tuition', but very few that you would actually want tuition from (not...

Re: Standard or long chanter?

I agree completely with this ^^^^ I'd like to add that I think all of these electronic chanters are the last thing you want to use for meaningful practice. They can encourage sloppy fingering and...

Re: Controlling nerves

Lots of good advice here.

The old saying 'don't practice until you get it right, practice until you can't get it wrong' rings true. Solid preparation will help, and allow you to focus on the...

Re: Beginner Strathspeys

I think there are better beginner ones out there. Those are uabhasach difficult tunes just cut down to 2 parts. And I'm not sure of the value of learning and 'easy' setting, only to have to re-learn...

Re: Beginner Strathspeys

Struggling to remember as it was so long ago, but I'm sure I learnt Miss Ada Crawford first.

Nice strath, it's short and relatively simple. It'll introduce a couple of new strathspey concepts.

Re: Dojo university?

I agree with Jack. Through the wonders of skype you can still connect with a quality teacher. Physical in the room 121 is best but a close second would be skype lessons with a quality tutor. Neil...

Re: Standard or long chanter?

It makes no odds, you can play either on the table or on your knee.

From age 10 I played a long PC, and only recently I acquired a standard PC which breaks down into 4 parts for traveling.
