Re: Embellishment in Crossing the Minch
Thinking of it that way raises an interesting issue. If you play it the Edcath way, it makes three Bs, whereas if you play it the Scots Guards way it makes four.
It would be awesome to see the MS...

Embellishment in Crossing the Minch
In the Scots Guards setting of Crossing the Minch, the movement on B is a doubling strike.
In the Edcath Collection it's something else.
B 'g b gdg B -- B with a g gracenote to B with a grip to...

Re: Time management as a multi-instrumentalist
We all have the same 24 hours. I’ve started playing with a Celtic/folk/rock band and haven’t played GHB since March really. I only practice a few hours a week and it’s all whistle and EWI.

Re: Split in blowstick_repair or leave it alone
Roddy MacLellan, in Monroe, NC, fixed a crack in my J&R Glen blowstick. The repair is almost invisible and the fee was very reasonable. Probably less than the cost of mailing a piece to Scotland.

Re: Jazz chord accompaniment
I have the Space Piper CD. I really liked that. Fun cover art too.
On the topic in general, I play synth bass in a band with fiddle and guitar. A lot of times I'll pick a note that I think sounds...

Re: Recording for Online Competitions
Phones do good with video and can do OK with audio. If you want to significantly improve the quality of sound, you can get Zoom u-22 audio interface and plug a CAD M179 microphone into it and put it...

Re: Zoom H2n Settings
I have an OG Zoom H2. It makes good recordings, but I haven't used it in a long time.
According to my memory, what you want to do is set it to a basic stereo setting and then put it into record...

Re: "Wrongly" arranged and misprinted tunes
A few years ago my instructor became an EUSPBA judge. Part of the piobaireached certification, iirc, involved learning the misprints. The idea being that a judge should not penalize a competitor for...

Re: Smallpipe Drone Tuning
Not a direct answer to your question, but if you tune your drones to the harmonic series (example: a e A), and if you have it perfectly tuned and balanced, it will trick the brain into believing it...

Re: Harmonic support for chanter notes
Higher pitch, not higher on the pin. So assume the tenor is tuned at the hemp. If you raise the pitch (perhaps feed the drone from a tone generator) the tone will get less rich. For any given set of...

Re: Harmonic support for chanter notes
It's important to keep in mind that the drones are only one side of the equation. There is a pronounced harmonic series in the chanter too and it will interact with the harmonics in the drones.

Re: Older MCC2 chanter playing flat?
Mine too. Mine plays at normal 474 to 478 pitches but the high G is terrible in the winter.
You could send Willie McCallum an email or FB message. I had a question when I was thinking of buying...

Re: What tune never gets old to you?
I really like Scotland the Brave. If I had to play it 20 times in a row I'd probably be tired of it by the end, but I'd be ready to play it again the next day.
Highland Cathedral I wouldn't mind...

Without a doubt Duncan Soutar of St. Andrews has the best durable mouth blown SSP I've heard. They're entirely synthetic. The sound is nice. Not as nice as wooden bellows sets, but nicer than any...

Re: Reed scraping question.
Maybe it depends on the reed?
If it's just a little too strong, then scrape it with a utility blade and a little dust and try it again.
On the other hand I had some Ross reeds someone gave me...
