Re: A piper's eye

I imagine the tone wouldn't be too vibrant, though. Probably could feel it in the soles of your feet. :willy:

Re: Tunes for worships

I have always liked "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah" also known as Cwm Rhondda. If you use a up-tempo organ accompaniment, it is a great tune with the pipes. Pipetunes.ca has a nice setting.

Re: Controlling nerves

I like to run through a visualization of what I'm going to do, with the memorization of the tune (running through it either 'pantomiming' the notes or playing outright), setting the scene mentally...

Re: Awards

As a post script, I have nothing so grand as small labels or tags. A fine tip Sharpie on the back of the award with the date, the grade level and event are enough for me to remember. I keep the...

Re: Adjusting chanter tuning with hemp

I'm with Ian on this one; both points. Don't take part in the auction and that's probably a bad job of whipping a crack shut. Whipping on the way to flogging, by the look of it.

Re: Unboxing of Nate Banton Smallpipes!

Great video! Officially jealous now. Those look (and sound) like they will be a bunch of fun for you.

Re: Awards

I hang them on my coat hook at work during the competition season, then put them with their predecessors in a wooden box on my bedside table. They are all labeled with the year and event, should...

Re: Lee Scottish Industries - problem seller?

If they are who I think they are, they're also known as the Tartan Thistle in Freeland, WA. They've been going through the wringer of late, with Angus being ill and Maureen passing away in January....

Re: Iíve met my threshold and itís 15 degrees

Let's see. Lower limit had to have been: 10 degrees F with a twenty mph wind at the top of a mountain for a kid's cross country ski race starting send-off. Finger-less wool gloves, ski parka,...

Re: Another Odd Duck Music Question...

Yeah, those ear-worm bits of tunes or catchy jingles can really burrow in. My Mom used to go about the house humming a snippet of tune over and over until we would holler or hum another snippet to...

Re: Piping in the Park

All I know is that when I begin my piobaireachd in the churchyard I use for practice, the pigeons line up on the roof ridgeline facing me and settle in wing-to-wing. I always get the mental picture...

Re: On competition - is music a sport

In a word: no. I cannot view competitions (I'll use those I've experienced in junior high and high school here in the US) as sports. They are artistic, very hard-fought in their application and great...

Re: Bagpipes as carry-on luggage

Same again here. You can pad with clothing; socks make very good wrapping for drone parts. Just don't have a knife or anything with you for cutting hemp and you should be good to go. Pipes will break...

If this is just for fun, then: Ass in the Graveyard, Pumpkin's Fancy, Phantom Piper of Carriyairack (maybe just the ground), The Haunting, Devil in the Kitchen, Devil Among the Tailors, The Witch's...

Re: Is there any bagpipery in Bozeman, MT?

Wow, you're kind of in the hole of a very big donut. There is piping in Missoula, Great Falls, Billings, Helena and Kalispell, but I'm not familiar with any other in western Montana. All the places...

Re: Interesting short read "The keening whine and thrilling drone of the bagpipes"

We have the Shadle Park High School Pipe Band here in Spokane (they're the Highlanders!) The pipe band has been around since the late 50's and, as I understand, they go the same fluctuations of...
