I think the interchangeability of drone parts is the reason, rather than saving space. I found the set lacking in bass to my ear.

Makes sense. I see why they are the same. The reeds are often interchangeable. It does leave them lacking in bass though. We bored out the bass on a poly set that only is played in A. Big improvement...

I have made cane drone reeds for lots of SSP. Most with a bass and baritone at the fifth have the same bore in both drones. I would like to hear more bass. Is there a reason to not have a larger bore...
