Re: Bagpipe Stand

Tom, there is a guy in Europe (pretty sure Scotland) that makes a metal stand a wee bit better for Pipes.. I'll see if I can find the site. I'm pretty sure he is here on BD too.

Re: Music writing pen

Sent Ron a PM but he hasn't logged I believe.

If anyone writing music would like a custom high-end fountain pen, I would be more than glad to make it for you. We can select nib types and I can...

Re: How do you cure lignum vitae?

Not all Kilns go to a point of boiling wood.. fact I don't know any in my area that do. Which is why I suggested it could be a month process. There are several resources that list what specific...

Re: How do you cure lignum vitae?

I would cut them no less than 18"... you will get "Checking" on each end. Once cut, seal the ends.. use 3 parts glue with 1 equal part water. Titebond II works great... seal cut ends immediately, ...

Re: Free or inexpensive website hosting?

Highly recommend Weebly. I've done numerous sites, softwares, hosting companys, etc. and in my opinion has a "leg up" on Wix.. Weebly allows a little more site changes than Wix.

Both have some...

Re: Piper @ WWII Memorial

Yes, it was a member of my band. We do a ton of Honor Flights all the time. This Piper was actually a last minute fill in and his first solo experience. We had no idea of the media exposure this...

Re: Pipe Band Insurance?

We carry a "blanket policy" for our band. In case an action is brought to a member or the band in it's whole while performing or on travel trip.

It doesn't cover an individual instrument loss...

Re: Would/Do Pipers use a Pipe Stand?

Well, I will say this.. that 95% of my customers say that they practice more with a "stand".

1. because it's ready to go for the most part
2. you visually see it more often and the guilt...

Re: Bagpipe Stand

Family Guy, that looks pretty cool. I suggest maybe some smaller hooks for the tenor drones. You'd be surprised how gravity will stress the cords and the bag.

Always enjoy seeing all the...

Re: a boring question (gun drilling)

So Geoff, it's like a chuck in itself to hold the gundrill. Can you upload a photo. I'm pretty sure I got what your saying. Pictures would confirm.

So never using a gundrill. Is there much...

Re: a boring question (gun drilling)

I just got my first gundrill for making some PC's... Tim, could you post some photos of this setup? Do you also drill a pilot with a straight bit? If so, how far do you go with the straight bit.

Re: Reed retailers

You all need to try Husk Reeds.. I find it truly a balance reed in a Shepherd chanter. We use them for our band and our guys are tough on them. Just make sure you tell Husk what you are after.

Re: Blackwood oil?

Bill, it's a marketing term. It is generally made from a blend of oils. Most makers use Linseed oil and blends of other oil. Rarely do they use Tung Oil. what you need to watch out for is the...

But I wonder how the polypropylene can hold wax to itself?

The cotton we use now can at least adsorb wax to a degree.

Re: Antique Bagpipe Cases/Boxes

It looks like Big Leaf Pine for the material. These are hand cut dovetails and whomever made this was probably a Sr. Craftsman. You can tell by the spacing between dovetails. Otherwise...

Re: Restoring and Refinishing

Unless you have a lathe, I would send off to a pipe maker to restore.

They look find to me but it's your call. But again, send them out to a pipe maker or restorer.

Thomas Doucet or...

Re: Beeswax formula vs. toilet ring

I have to look at the package again but I am pretty sure toilet wax rings have petroleum in it. Which you wouldn't want in your "brew".

You can buy block wax like Bee's or Carnuba in small...
