Re: Real bagpipe sounds for BMW, NO special hardware required

Thanks for this - would be perfect if there was a way to make that setting persistent. I know you can copy in lines to other files in a text editor, could a batch file do this for every tune I have?...

Re: Is the Worlds killing the pipe band world?

Interesting - also, if anyone can link to a video of Dysart starting a medley, standing on the line, with a slow air, and marching to form a circle on their second tune I'd appreciate it.

Now to...

Re: Starter PCs

I'd steer clear and try to get a group discount from a proper maker. No idea if the likes of McCallum with CNC would be open to this, or Walsh/Dunbar over your way. I did stumble on 3D printed...

Re: Well known pipers who play easy reeds?

Douglas Murray

Gold Medalist and PM of Fife Police. Quite an eye opener. Volume does not equal tone. Be comfortable, play for longer and get through reeds quicker (potentially). I will never, ever...

Re: PS digital books

This - I'd go as far as say all piobaireachd should be available for free - including new compositions under copyright. They should be available as "folk" tunes under the living tradition.

I...

Re: West Fife Schools Pipe Band needs a Piping tutor

Inverkeithing have a band along the road from you - no drummers and not many strong pipers but have a great piper in Tom Richards who could maybe help spearhead things if you wanted to join up (you...

Re: Matching Drone Reeds

I've never really chased tone, with the bagpipes, guitar or anything so take this as you will...

Matched drone reeds work in bands, with matched moistre control setups as :

Re: Some of my tunes

1ST TUNE

Like it, I'd keep the ornamentation distinct and consistent. 2nd part would be all grace note with closed strikes on LA B C if you follow me. Maybe lose the grip at the end, as I...

Re: What do you wish someone had told you when you started?

- Piobaireachd introduced alongside light music

- Maintenance & setup for sound, reeds etc (focus was fingering/technicality)

- General music theory, had to get this myself, school assumed...

Re: Rebuilding A Band

Thanks guys for the suggestions so far.

I'm trying to stay positive, although the suggestions I'm making keep getting shot down or that old chestnut "we've tried that before".

- a drum tutor is...

Re: Plastic (delrin, poly or acetyl) drones in a pipe corps

Took plastic pipes (Dunbars) along to a grade 2 band, was asked if I had blackwood drones (otherwise they'd supply me with loaner pipes).

Then again, I feel a LOT of the piping world is backwards...

Rebuilding A Band

Local band in a poor state of affairs:

Band has :

- core of pipers (6ish), good enough to provide tuition
- no 'proper' drummers, borrow some + learners from other band in wider area
-...

Manuscripts? Sheet music request

I'm looking to find any manuscripts or old books relating to all the different wee pipes - I know there's some on piob.info and I know of the Dixon publication, no chance the original manuscript is...

Re: PC Bore ID / Double Chanter Question

Course is metal work/manufacturing - so I have two chanters made out of brass! Shined to the max, so they have decorative value and would suit as a memento/gift/prize if I can't get them playable.

PC Bore ID / Double Chanter Question

Recently made a practice chanter at college - could only find a 1/4" drill for a 4mm bore, so now have two chanters that have 6.35mm bores! Neither of my chanter reeds (Trutone) work in them! Are...

Taking No Shortcuts

Been reading and heard about this drum bible for J Reid Maxwell - I don't know if it's still not been published but I'd be interested if anyone had a copy they could send on.

Piper, looking to...

Binneas Notation Please!

I'm struggling to find a good picture of the Binneas style of piobaireachd notation online. I was wondering if somebody could post a picture or two here of a tune, ideally in full.

Thanks
