Re: Drone fixation?

In the case of FMM, yes it generally is. Some other bands are heading down that path but don't get the same quality. This points towards a formula and level of expertise that FMM know inside and out....

Re: New to Bagpipes

Andrew T Lenz is correct - wait until you have an instructor to step you through all things. Forums are helpful (to an extent), but never a substitute for someone sitting there with you giving...

Re: Drone fixation?

Yep, they both take some beating. FMM sound like a big church organ just humming away. Depth of bass, no sibilence off the tenors, just a big wall of one-ness (if such a word exists) that you could...

Re: Drone Reed Falling Out

This would make an interesting “Net Read” as YOU say,

Does the maker or the material make it GOOD or BAD??!!

You don’t say.

Re: Practical solutions for a Leaky Bag

Replace them. 3 or so years per bag is a good and typical return.

You'd be lucky to get that from a sheep skin!

Time to reload. :)

Re: Drone Reeds......for Dunfions

Davey, this is a good suggestion. Check my PM I sent you, but this is also a good idea.

Only issue might be differing behaviours in certain conditions (mainly temperature) given they are so...

Re: Drone Reeds......for Dunfions

Ahh, my first time back on Dunsire for almost a year and I see that some things never change.

You're all class, Robin......not. As unconstructive and void of class as ever before I see.

Obtain...

Re: Drone fixation?

Listen to Field Marshal Montgomery PB (in the flesh if you can) and then also Roddy MacLeod when he's in full flight. That is about all you'd need to hear to realise why the quest exists for most of...

Re: 2007 Worlds Predictions

Hey nothing personal, but if you take issue to the thread how about you just stop reading it.

A forum thread should be like a conversation. Free to evolve. </span>[/QUOTE]Because I started the...

Re: French tune title translation

It's a contemporary tune - written by a band member.

"The Lemon's March" is the translation I was given by someone in Brittany.

Re: Grade One Results from Dumbarton

Yeah good call, Nick.

FMM were on their game, piping-wise, as per usual. Back end didn't fair too well at all.

As always, some people get excited early and make bold predictions from their arm...

Re: Grade One Results from Dumbarton

Strathclyde have certainly been on the way up for a while now. But as always it's early days.

Just bear in mind that they have won majors in recent years and then not matched the level of...

Re: Mrs. MacPherson of Inveran

I agree with you about the Strathclyde performance, but the question was which phrasing to use, the one in 1st edition SG or GMcL. If you compare them then Shotts and Strathclyde both play the SG...

Re: Mrs. MacPherson of Inveran

Never mind using Shotts as the basis for how to play this magnificent tune. They just roll through it.

It has never been played better, by a band, than it was in 1989 - by the Strathclyde Police...

Re: Air Loss Problems ?

It is normal for air to escape from the bag when the drone reeds are not in action - because the tongues on the reeds are fixed in an 'open' position while the bag is being inflated, especially with...

Re: Quieting a PC sans rubberband

Lots of suggestions here, but they all seem to be addressing the symptom rather than the real cause of the problem.

Can I suggest that you address the real issue here - that is, your close...

Re: Perfectionism?

False dilemma. Technique and musicality should be balanced priorities. Even I know that. :D

I think your sig says it well enough:

AJF, I would be grateful to know the details about this problem and it's therapy, honestly. </span></div></div>Send me a PM, describing the problems you're having.

Re: Long term storage

Hang on, the guy just said they are "brand new". There's no need to put oil in the same room as these pipes, let alone inside the bores. He's storing them, not restoring them.

They need to either...

Re: How to adjust drone harmonics?

Sounds like a reed adjustment issue to me.

Some "synthetics" have plugs, that assist in adjusting the tone. Pulling the plugs out in small increments, then testing, would be a good start. These...

Re: Eyes right?

Stand at ease, people.

Never mind all this qasi-military hoo-ha.

It seems to me that pipe bands can blur the lines between civil and military because they consist of either musicians, or...

Re: Eyes right?

Two words come to mind here: Pomp &amp; Ceremony.

If that's the protocol for the event, then just do it without question.

The DM (if you have one) can fire a salute at whoever is sitting there....
