Re: How many actually use Binneas

What I've learned from airing MacPherson recordings on my radio show is that he didn't always follow Binneas either. Made me realize, at my advancing age of greyness, what great fun it is to read...

Re: I made my own pipe bag

Yes it is. At least the most familiar beginning of the suite. Wonderful work you've done there. Congrats.

Re: Shouldn't there be threads in drone seats??

Oh fer dog's sake, you're not actually tapping a seat, you are using a tap to score the seat. Simply by hand, a 4-cutter tap can be rotated 1/4 turn to score threads down the first 1/4-inch of seat....

Re: Which pipemaker in these vintage photos?

Looks like John Weatherston blowing the chanter. Ask Alistair if it's RG Hardie.

Re: Robertson Identification

Into the 1950s because of the not too drastic convex (bulging) profile. Ringo could narrow the era, but we're only talking about a couple decades, and that's a pretty tight range in pipe dating. ...

Re: Robertson Identification

Post war blackwood Robertsons with casein drone rings/bushes. Very nice and solid pipe.

Re: Worst venue of 2018...go!

That was frustrating; the announcement stated clearly that the amateur piobaireachd competition would this year be held "at" the host hotel. Show up and the courtyard is chock full of nuts instead...

Worst venue of 2018...go!

Pleasanton Games amateur piobaireachd. 8 leets in a motel entry area next to the valet parking lot, surrounded on two sides by concrete and glass, with pipers too close in all four corners. Motel...

Re: Judges and Manuscripts

If a judge doesn't scratch his head at least once, I have failed to bring anything special to my performance. For better or worse.

Re: When was the First Medley Competition?

That might have been my lingering senior moments all strung together, but I can't recall where I saw that info. Maybe in the history section of pipingpress, I dunno. Thought it was then, with...

Re: When was the First Medley Competition?

I think I remember reading 1970. Might be in the archived interview with DS Ramsay on PipesDrums.

Re: Is the Worlds killing the pipe band world?

I thought it happened in the 80s when 78th played My Laggan Love at the line and then marched in after. Rumored to be the reason the 3-beat intro rolls were made a rule in RSPBA contests. I doubt...

Re: piping after a hernia operation

I know you play easy reeds, but get a technopipe, Bob, and don't bag for two months. It will still ache long after.

Re: Drone reeds for old pipes

It's not the bores, it's the reed seats. I have a set of 1960s G&C and they have small reed seats. It took maybe one minute to ream the seats by hand and now any modern drone reed fits just fine,...

Re: Piobaireachd High A

I think it's Terry Lee who plays that way.

I use piobaireachd hiA when I play piobaireachd, and am contemplating a switch to using it in light music too. No harm.

If you compete in both...

Re: Chanter replace/complement Starck drones

I ended up using Kinnairds in the drones. They could match a Sinclair or Hardie in volume, so a wide range of chanters will do fine.
