Re: Looking for music high hand and low A and B only

Yes. But it's rare for a hand to genuinely be too small for a standard spacing.

Re: Looking for music high hand and low A and B only

MacCallum's child size is substantially shorter than the standard.

That said, there are kids half his age out there playing on standard chanters. The trick is that the pinkie must scoot out...

Re: Queen's Piper on hiatus

Plus, the way things are these days, all the candidates are doing jobs that need to be done, so moving people is a process.

Re: Piper's Pinkie

I've long suspected Achill Island in Ireland could run it close - couple of thousand people with three pipe bands at last count. Got to have something to do during those long Atlantic winters.

Re: Piper's Pinkie

As far as I understand it, finger stretching is at best useless and potentially actively damaging. All the mobility controlling your fingers is done from the muscles in your arms, most of them near...

Re: Quick march at slow pace?

Just take short paces. It's OK to only be stepping a few inches at a time if necessary. It feels odd, but it looks fine. And it makes more sense the quicker the tempo.

Re: Name of this Hornpipe?

It's Stuart's version of the High Road to Linton. There are various historical settings that are clearly the inspiration - John Burgess for starters - and Bobby MacLeod's variations, but most of it...

Re: Feather Bonnet Hack????

Sounds like it's the wrong size and/or badly made. A feather bonnet isn't exactly a baseball cap, but you should be able to wear it for a few hours without wishing for sweet, sweet death.

Make...

Re: Which pipemaker in these vintage photos?

Compare the red of the bag to the red of the hackle and in the carpet. Just an aged photo.

Re: Shouldn't there be threads in drone seats??

On conical bores: if it is good enough for mating components on metal lathes spinning at thousands of RPM under load, it is good enough for us.

The key is properly hemping the reed tenon so...

Re: Shouldn't there be threads??

There is absolutely no need for a drone reed seat to be threaded. Some reed seats are undersized, and could do with being reamed out, but generally the reed simply needs fitted properly.

Re: The Ben Loyal Collection by P/M Sandy Forbes

Music books these days tend to go out of print fairly quickly. My advice is buy them while they're fresh.

Re: How many lines?

You might be right Paul - thing is with drummers so many are used to working with only one leading tip that that corps' working practices can be very idiosyncratic.

Re: How many lines?

Not directly, because sticking is to some extent discretionary. My honest reaction is to tell them they should be able to read the rhythm perfectly well and proceed with common sense from there,...

Re: BWW on Chromebook?

I've no experience with Chromebooks specifically, but ABC is multi-platform and with the right toolchain unproblematic.

Re: Your Experience with Acetyl (Plastic) Highland Bagpipes

Delrin is a particular type of (branded) plastic which is a member of the family of plastics called acetal. Acetyl is something different entirely.

Re: How many lines?

Traditional percussion practice is to notate scores on one line for each instrument, with sticking indicated where necessary.

The Swiss invented a notation with notes on two lines for left and...

I have to admit that if I was told that I would be asking how reliable it really is. But medical advice is medical advice. We ain't doctors, and we don't know better.

Re: Stocks in Canmore Bag

Not being able to twist stocks is a good rule of thumb, but to be honest in practice stocks can twirl freely and still be airtight and last. I've got one on my sheep and it's tight as a drum.

Re: High B and C natural suggestions?

I think the best solution to MacArthur Road is to take those initial phrases down a bit: fA ~A2 fAgA | fAgd | e2 ef edBd etc. Or if playing with others, just play the low B and let someone else take...

Re: Tenor Drone all of a sudden won't tune

It will last a lot longer, but it won't stay in tune. It's plastic, it bends over two hundred times a second, and it will ultimately fatigue. I've got a 12 month old set of Ezeedrones in my band...
