Re: Dumb Question: Drones vs. Chanter Reed Strength

I personally set up my drone reeds to give me the volume and sound I'm looking for regardless of their cut off point. I do understand the idea behind wanting drone reeds to be as efficient as...

Re: Why an inverted bass drone reed?

I think I already replied to this thread but in light of the new comments I wanted to chime in.

Regarding the inverted vs regular Ezee bass reeds: my experience has been the exact reverse of the...

Re: Zipper lube

Pipe bag zippers ARE the same as scuba zippers for dry suits (I'm a diver as well as a piper lol)

The key is to ONLY use a silicone based lubricant on your pipe bag zippers, that's all Ti-zip is,...

Re: Blackwood change, dulling down with time

As a regular oiler of pipes I will say that yes the tone changes somewhat right after you oil but not in a bad way and it usually goes back to normal in about a week or so. Barely noticeable...

Re: Shouldn't there be threads??

Poly pipe reed seats are more difficult to get reeds seated in, no doubt. My first set of pipes back in the early 90's were poly Dunbars and I had lots of trouble seating reeds due to the ultra...

Re: New Ceol chanter?

I did. I really like the new Ceol chanter a lot. Very warm and harmonic chanter, quite high pitched but easy to reed and I think a very good choice for mid to upper level bands. Good stuff McCallum.

Re: Cold weather playing

As a youngster I accepted a gig on St. Pat's day to play all the arriving guests into a restaurant. I was told there would be about 3 or 4 bus loads of people arriving at a specific time and they...

Re: Chanters & Pitch @ 2018 World Pipe Band Championships

Hide bags and lots of cane drone reeds. 1/4 of the bag and you're done. Clean cut off. The way it used to be.

Re: Airstream tilt

I too have a blowstick with a built in valve, I also use a Moose valve (more as a spit trap than anything else) and I've never had any clacking or other issues.

Re: Anything on streaming The Worlds?

At this level of the game all the big stuff is a non issue, early E's, trailing drones, bad drone tuning, note errors, etc.... every thing is so close, so spot on, that it comes down to the...

Re: Chanters & Pitch @ 2018 World Pipe Band Championships

I wrote down the bands, what chanter they used and what pitch they were at for the qualifiers (both MSR and Medley) and the Medley of the finals. I'll repost that below. I also noted the current...

Re: Questions regarding having pipes made

I haven't seen too many cnc engraved pipes that I've liked but I have to say the MacRae line from McCallum has some really excellent machine engraving. The best I've seen. It looks close to hand...

Re: Drone reeds for vintage Lawrie pipes

I like both. I'm actually using regular Kinnaird tenors and the Evo bass.

You can call Kinnaird and tell them if you want to mix and match and they'll do it for you no problem.

The regulars...

Re: Drone reeds for vintage Lawrie pipes

I'm using Kinnaird in my 1905 Lawries. They are amazing reeds. If you really like a nice buzz then get some Balance Tone High Resonance reeds.

Ezeedrone tenors and a cane bass is also a classic...
