Re: Bass drone goes out of tune quickly

There are lots of reasons. Make sure every joint is tight (but still tunable). Escaping air can cause problems as can just a slipping tuning joint.

Now’s the time to check for cracks too. Don’t...

Re: Scottish Smallpipes - New Reeds for an Old Set

Iain Allen ssp reeds are fantastic. They work whether your ambient environment is Houston, TX humid or bone dry Lubbock, TX. Ezee’s ssp reeds distort heavily when dried out, but not Iain’s; I love...

Re: Pierced Pipers?

Just like every other facet of life, there are jerks everywhere. You do you Joe, and let those who focus on appearance filter themselves out. Someone has to remember it’s about the music! For some of...

Re: Problems with High A?

I guess I don’t view a quiet high A as incorrect. It is what it is at the strength of reed you’re playing, apparently.

After your first sentence I was waiting for you to tell us it was really...

Re: The Struggle

Searching for hornpipes whose titles start with “the str” I can’t help but wonder if it’s supposed to be The Streaker, a much more common and well known 4 part hornpipe:...

Re: The Struggle

That track is taken from the album I mentioned above.

Perhaps it is for a different tune since The Struggle by Dougie Pincock is most definitely a two parted reel, or they got the name wrong, or...

Re: The Struggle

As on track 3 of Battlefield’s album “On the Rise” they only play 2 parts of it as a reel (no repeats) three times through.

Google hasn’t shown me any other instances of the tune being recorded by...

Re: Deleting an ad

There’s a red upside down yield sign in the bottom left corner of every post. You click that and report the item/post as sold.

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

Also smaller width or smaller area, as area would descrease faster due to its exponential nature.

That photo was taken as I was walking out the door for a weeklong vacation at Yellowstone last year for a potential buyer. The PH has sold since then though not to the person the photo was for...

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

My rough measure of a Kyo puts it just a little smaller on the bottom hand:

A 30 mm B 28 mm C 22 mm D 24 mm E 25 mm F 21 mm G

Looks like the Infinity is identical to the Shepherd Classic Mk 3...

Re: E note flat on Border Chanter

If you're at 450 it sounds as if the reed is too closed, and so if it has a metal/wire bridle you could squeeze the edges of the bridle to open the tips of the reed a very small amount. With luck it...

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

I see whistles with all the same bottom hand spacing. What I don’t see is whistles with different bottom hand spacing.

Of course, your preferences and adaptability may be different than mine.

Re: E note flat on Border Chanter

Is it a plastic reeded border pipe chanter reed? That would explain a lot.

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

Hole size is important in that huge holes are harder to cover. But, and don’t tell Murray, I carved the crap out of one of my Kyos, though the holes aren’t onerously large (my fingers still fit on...

Charlie, what do you mean by the low A was a little lower? Do you mean in addition to the holes being a little smaller than your Shepherd, the low A hole seemed to be farther down the chanter?

On...

Re: Video and audio recordings

I can’t recommend anything “cheap” but you’re just looking for something that can handle the bagpipe volume so if you find something rated to 120 dB as stated above you should be good. Phone mics are...

Re: Does different price mean different quality?

Sounds like a great question for a pipe maker who turns everything by hand, as they would be the only ones who would get a good, actual feel of the wood at all stages of manufacture.
