Re: Band reeds - what do you use?

We've just switched to Shepherd molded reeds in our earlier McCallum band chanters - so far, so good. A bit lower pitched and very stable.

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

He claimed up to 40% smaller holes on the Infinity, but I'm wondering...40% smaller than which chanter?

Re: David Naill solo blackwood chanters - Any good?

There's lots of info on the Blackwood Naill here on the forum. They are excellent chanters overall. Great response and harmonics.

Band reeds - what do you use?

Trying to get an idea of what bands out there are using for chanter reeds, out of interest and to gauge what we should try in our early McCallum band chanters. Cheers!

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

Jori Chisholm has posted some good information on the chanters on his Facebook site and Bagpipelessons.com

I'll be ordering one from a Canadian supplier when they come in.

Re: MCS attached to drones

Can't go wrong with the Bannatyne Dri Flo system. Lightweight, easy to maintain, very little drone volume loss.

Your 2019 setup?

I had asked last year what (if any) changes people had made with their pipe/bag/chanter/reed setups - what's the plan for 2019? Any changes from 2018?

I'm currently playing a set of Naills with...

Re: G1 Platinum Blackwood Chanter

Very nice chanters, I had one for a while. Sounded with great with G1 Platinum and G1 Copper, as well as Husk and Chesney. Big sound, comfortable finger spacing.

Re: MG White Mamba Drone Reeds

I've found the bass very good tonally (big, buzzy) in my Naills, but I think because of this, the overtones were overpowering my Ezee tenors. I'm trying to get the right balance, likely will fiddle...

Re: Canmore Hybrid bags

I tie in the chanter stock on my Canmore Hybrid. Works great! I don't trust the o-ring and clamp myself. Always worried that the o-ring isn't completely sealed in the groove.

Re: Canmore Hybrid bags

The Hybrid breathes much better. The material is stiffer and doesn't flop like the older style green Gore-Tex. This is the first synthetic bag I've been able to play with no MCS on the drones - only...

Re: Dominant Naill drones - which reeds to use?

A full set of X-Treme reeds will work well in the Naills. I find the tenors a tad quieter than Ezees with different harmonics that complement the bass well.

Re: AAaarrrgggghhhhh!!!! My bag has sprung a leak!!!

Yep...you can tape and glue all you want, but I personally wouldn't trust a repair job to last over the long term. A new Canmore Hybrid has a 2-year warranty...

Re: Canmore Hybrid bags

I think a lot more pipers will move to the Canmore Hybrid bags in the near future. A lot hear Canmore and think the floppy, green bags. The hybrid bags are a different beast.

Perhaps I'm a...

Re: Canmore Hybrid bags

I'd say the Canmore Hybrid is the best synthetic bag out there today. Comfortable, easy to install and it breathes extremely well. No durability issues for me.
