Re: Frankenpipe info needed

My cocuswood D Glen:
chanter stock is 4” @ 0.772”
blowpipe stock is 3.5” @ 0.773”

So 49.4/64 isn’t really a thing but fairly close to your 51/64”.

Re: Glenfiddich Tempos

Sorry, that should say “125 down to 100” regarding the variation in strathspey tempos.

Re: How many sets do you 'run' at a time?

The used pipe market is saturated. The resale value of pipes is very low. I’d just hold onto them. You’d just be selling them to someone else who’s likely to let them sit. Unless you could really use...

Re: pipe tune associated with Henderosn's song John Maclean

I’m guessing the link didn’t get posted.

There are 3 I know of:
1. Freedom Come All Ye - Bloddy Fields of Flanders
2. Banks of Sicily - Farewell to the Creeks
3. John MacLean’s March - Scotland...

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

You reckon Stuart Liddell is still playing a Peter Henderson chanter?

Re: Rehearsal "activities"

Depends on what kind of band you wanted to play in. The last group I played with, I expected people to learn music at home.

All we did at rehearsal was play through the sets on the bagpipes (not...

Re: Balancing chanter

The only holes that noticeably change the pitch of other notes is the two tone holes that allow you to flatten low G. By taping them low A will go sharper, B not as much, and then it tapers off by...

Re: Listen to this

Well, it allowed me to just play it in the browser without having an account.

I could only find 3 tracks that had highland bagpipes.

I don’t really care for the tone of a practice chanter. I do...

Re: Reeding a 440 Maclellen chanter

That is a potential solution for when there is tape on high G, though not a solution I am likely to ever use because in most chanters it’s a reed issue that can solved by using a better matched brand...

Ditto. Lots of artists complain about low pay for services like Spotify, so I’ve decided to not utilize the service.

Re: Transposition in sheet music

I think there’s only one more thing to clarify: there are chanters in different keys. The most common is D and the notes that are read off the music correspond exactly to the notes that you’ll hear....

Re: How to Obtain Good Chanter Reeds

Gilmour are remarkable reeds. I get medium, and if too hard just a quick dip in water, blow the water out, wipe off the blades, and good to go. Not sure if they’ll give you a flat D in the RJM...

Re: Transposition in sheet music

I have. Turns out my crossfingered Bb is really just half way between Bb and B, so not any good. Also, I’m really not sure what a triplet of two notes (quarter and eighth) is supposed to be in 4/4...

Re: Transposition in sheet music

It is fairly straightforward. However, uilleann piping is very idiomatic and I hope you understand that it is unlikely to find someone who will just play the notes without any embellishment. It would...

Re: Transposition in sheet music

A flat set is usually a whole other set of pipes, this is not the solution you’re looking for nor is it likely you’d find someone off the street with both. Normal sets are in D, so flat sets, be they...

Re: Reeding a 440 Maclellen chanter

There have been some developments since I last posted here.

In testing "480" drone reed prototypes for Terry Ackland, I suggested he make some 440 drone reeds. After a bit of tweaking, I think...

I can’t help but wonder if there is unnecessary tension somewhere. Are they not holding themselves up and so you’re left hand is having to do double duty? Is it mouthblown or bellows blown?
