Re: G Major (not G mixolydian) Smallpipe chanter

I definitely appreciate the increase in repertoire that this chanter has allowed.

I have been publishing the tunes I find to my website to encourage others to experiment with the tuning (which...

Re: Practice chanter tuning

Good thing the instruction has nothing to do with practice chanters, as noted in the relevant quote I responded to, for those incapable of understanding context.

Re: Practice chanter tuning

Since I like paying attention to forum rule #7, I've only quoted the relevant part of your post that I am replying to, unlike some people around here who feel the need to quote the entirety of every...

G Major (not G mixolydian) Smallpipe chanter

The latest iteration of the G Major Scottish smallpipe chanter project is back in my hands from being modified by its maker, Seth Hamon:

Re: Irish Funeral

Hi Pip01,

(S)He’s been given plenty of good advice prior to your post. We’re having a conversation here. Not out of the generosity of the OP, but because this is a forum...for communicating...and...

Dang it Bob(by)*, now that you say it, and I hear it in my head, Iíll never be able to play that tune without grimacing again!

Every tune is different. You seem determined to be right just as much. Iím not trying to convince you, but anyone else who might be listening, because you obviously think itís a grand idea.

Re: Irish Funeral

That high part adaptation is pretty lame. Take the most memorable part of the tune and castrate it so the tune can be played on the highland pipes.

Re: Irish Funeral

King of Laois is a very pretty tune with Irish connections.

I have no idea what an Irish piper is. You might ask for clarification to ensure they are not looking for an uilleann piper. Iím from...

Re: What does the EUSPBA do?

They sanction games and decide on regrade requests. And they still have a magazine, I think?

I dunno, why (West) Texas is officially in the EUSPBA, I have no idea. Actually I do, but it makes no...

Re: Drone tuning Walsh poly small pipes

What pitch is your chanter tuning at? Maybe it’s flat and not at the intended pitch for an A set of smallpipes (440 Hz reference)?

Since your problem seems to affect both drones, the “problem” is...

Re: Tuning Chanter Cane Reed

Push the reed further into the reed seat. You might need to take a wrap of hemp or two off to acheive this. It should affect the top hand more than the bottom hand so your low A should still be very...

Re: Flat E on RJM Chanter

JT2 or McAllister? McAllister model of Troy reeds is what I had success with, but that was correcting a flat D, not E. You’ve ensured there are no obstructions in the bore?

Do not carve the E...

Re: 3/4 or full size GHB

I would think a small bag is the biggest factor, with a short blowpipe second.

I wouldn’t bother with a 3/4 set, but would look for a nice button mounted set. I would start her with a make of...

Re: Seasoning a Gannaway Cowhide Zipper Bag

My understanding is Gannaway primer is for sealing and their seasoning/dressing is for moisture control (and further airtightness).

Re: Drone Reed Recommendation for 1910 Hendersons

Mainebagpipes,

I found the Kinnaird Edge bass reed wholly unadjustable. The only way I got it to work (sort of) was to disengage the adjustment screw from the tongue entirely. What did I miss?
