Re: Bagad Men Ta Han-Rohan

It can be played on highland pipes because it is played on highland pipes in the clip you posted. Overlayed on top, starting part way through, are bombardes, I believe. This pairing is ubiquitous in...

Re: Cockle shells - folk dance tune

It sounds like Highland Laddie is just a variation of this tune, or the other way around, not knowing which came first.

I’ll give them a go, and I know what you mean about D Glens being finicky!

Re: Favor PC reeds?

I used Walsh in my long Naill for a long time but recently realized when I took the top off that I forgot I’ve been used a similarly designed Erik Leiken. They’re easy to blow and in relatively good...

Re: Did "Scotland the Brave" originate with "O'Donnell Abu"?

I had a guy ask me once to play Hail Britannia. He then proceeded to sing Scotland the Brave.

Re: Did "Scotland the Brave" originate with "O'Donnell Abu"?

I dunno, you might first have to reconcile that the bagpipe version has been already modified from the ďoriginalĒ melody to fit the bagpipe scale.

Re: Ackland A466 Drone Reeds!

This blog post contains a recording of the first iteration of the Bb reeds before they were lengthened just slightly as mentioned in this thread. It is representative of the Ackland style reed...

Re: I LOVE my bagpipes

I have a whole blog dedicated to this very thing linked in my sig.

But I’ll tell you the story of my favorite set.

Chanter:
Someone posted about which pipes to buy on this very forum and I...

Re: Wedding dilemma

Only tangentially related:

I hope there aren’t even bagpipes at my funeral. I want people crying for me, not because their ears are bleeding.

So, make for absolute certain your daughter even...

Re: Lee and Sons vs. Gannaway

I have not. Though based on your description, I am unsure how it could be used to solve the problem of a very stiff, wide seam on a chanter stock tie-in.

Re: Burnsn Nighty Tunes

Since you can pinch the high B: Ca the Yowes and Cominí Thro the Rye, and if youíre really good at it, you could swing an older version of Auld Lang Syne.

Re: Predictions for the Next Decade

The pitch of low A will rise to concert B, making low G actually concert A.

ďG A B C# D E F# G AĒ

Becomes truly

A B C# D#/Eb E F# G# A B

Then, with crossfingering the third or back thumb...

Re: Eezeedrone reeds

I would set the tuning screw in the middle.

Then move the bridles to make the tongue shorter iteratively until they shut off when you bring in the chanter. Then move them back one iteration to...

Re: Tuning

The reed/chanter combo determines the pitch at which low and high A are an octave apart. So, the second one, where the chanter picks the pitch, not you.

High A will move more than low A as you...

Re: Anyone familiar with Mouthblown Maclellan studio pipes

A normal cane smallpipe reed will fail due to the moisture in short order. Apps makes a wet cane smallpipe reed (as opposed to a practice chanter reed). I have not tried it but there are reviews on...

Re: Drone Reed Assistance

I find X-TREME reeds to be tonally satisfying with a large pitch range due to a long tuning plug/screw. Iíve got one pipe at 482 and one at 473 with x-treme and both tune where I like and both have...

Re: Drilling C Nat Hole?

C and C# are easy enough. My crossfingered F on the...
